Jenny opens up Study Hall today, and brings in bagels and several different kinds of cream cheese for the students. She sets her laptop up in the front of the room and starts working on a program.

Xander shows up carrying a mini-aquarium.



With a purple frog in it. And a Post-it note on the side, right next to a firmly-attached¹ sprig of mistletoe.

He sits down at a desk near the door, pops the top of the tank open, makes sure the Post-it sign is conspicuously displayed... and pulls out a graphic novel book, settling in to watch out of the corner of his eye to make sure his frog doesn't escape or get captured by gremlins read.

It might look like he's ditching Journalism Class, but he's not.

Jenny waves at Xander, then grins at the frog in the aquarium. "Nice frog," she says, wandering over. "Though he's a little more purple than I'm thinking a frog has a right to be."

Xander grins. "Funny thing about that. He used to be green, but then I took him home for Thanksgiving. And whaddya know -- Sunnydale warps everything it touches."

"Gosh, it's just like a little slice of home," said Jenny, staring at the frog. "Crosses and all. You worried about vampires going after her? Or him?"

"Him." Xander frowns. "I... think? I asked and he gave me two croaks for yes. I wasn't about to check to see if he was lying."

He fingers one of the little toothpick-and-glue crosses attached to the tank. "Back in Sunnydale? The day before you, ah. Before Angelus...got to you? He got into Willow's room and left her a message. In an envelope. Fish on a string."

Jenny shook her head. "Smart of you. So what's his name?"

"I think you guys were a little busy not talking to me to tell me about the fish," said Jenny. She sighed. "But bygones, right? And please don't tell me you invited Angelus into your dorm room, Xander."

"Jeremiah. As in Jeremiah's not a bullfrog, but hell if I know what kind of frog he is, and I wasn't going with Kermit, which was the only other froggie name I could think of."

Xander winces as her question, and glances at the ring of crosses on the tank again. "I didn't exactly invite him, no. What with the him being my roommate thing."

"I like Jeremiah," said Jenny. "It has a nice ring to it, and, hey, there's a song."

"You got stuck rooming with Angelus?" asked Jenny. "And you didn't join the dead parade in half a day?"

"Principal Connor decided that since we loathed each other, loudly, it'd be funny to punish us by making us room together," Xander said. "I'm not getting why he never tried anything with me, either -- I guess since he was trying the model citizen fakeout, killing his roommate would've been a big tipoff at the time."

He tapped the biggest cross on Jeremiah's tank. "Once his cover was blown? Wasn't feeling so much with the safe. Not that I was before either, but again with the choke-chain theory; I figured if admin were letting him stay, they had control over him. I recognise that this was not one of my smarter figurings."

"Principal Connor had a messed-up sense of humor," said Jenny. "She the one that thought it'd be a kick to hire Drusilla to teach psych?"

"How'd he blow his cover?" asked Jenny, leaning one arm on the table and resting her chin in her hand. She wasn't really sure she wanted to know. "There's no way to control Angelus. But this place? Weird enough that you'd think there might be something. So I don't blame you."

Xander nodded. "I guess she hired Drusilla, yeah. We didn't have a Dean yet back then, so it was just Principal Connor, as far as I know." He scowled at the other question. "He blew his cover by killing somebody; no big surprise there, except how long he waited to do it. Or at least how long he waited to get caught doing it."

Paige came in looking for Sawyer with a worried expression, she saw the frog tank and moved a bit closer to read the post-it and laughed, "trying to get yourself a date Xander?" she asked with a smile

Xander does a good job of not grinning. "Me? Nope. All the frog's idea. I just do his croaky bidding."

Paige laughed again, "so he's making you carry him around trying to get kisses huh? I had no idea frogs were so devious!"

"You should play poker with him. He totally uses the reflection in his tank to peek at other people's cards."

Okay she had been worried but some how the idea of a frog playing poker makes her forget that.

She looks more closely at the frog then turns to Xander, "and he looks so sweet and innocent too!"

Xander nods. "It's a disguise. He looks like your everyday normal...purple...frog, but in reality, he's a master of manipulation."

She raises an eyebrow, so maybe he really is a princess! Only wouldn't be more of a prince, since he's male? And you know an evil one obviously, disguising himself as a purple frog to get people here to trust him!"

"has he always been purple?" she asks, since if he had she might actually be right

Xander shakes his head. "Nope, he used to be green. Then I took him home on break, and kinda forgot to ask my friends if the portal thingie they were sending was safe for amphibians."

He eyes Jeremiah. "I think.. maybe it's fading a little? He was pretty much grape-colored when we got back, and now it's sort of lavender." He frowns. "Lilac?"

"lilac I think," she agrees looking closely, "well erm I wish him good look with what ever the hell he's trying to do!"

Jeremiah ribbits, and flicks out his tongue in what he probably thinks is a fetching manner.
