The Library is open (11/21/2005)

Parker is very slightly hungover. Plus, she just heard the Dean's announcement.

This would not be a good time to mess with the library aide. She is wondering if Rory and Logan are awake, hoping they're not, and wishing she had her holy water handgun right now as she checks the card catalog for books on magical protection from vampires.

"No, it's Zero." Parker gives him a dark look. "Who happens to be a cat, for the moment. Why are you *here*?" She asks, making sure she has a good grip on her transformed and ferally cute friend.

Angel kept a respectful distance. He had a mental image of Zero launching herself directly for his face and that was the kind of thing he'd rather stayed a mental image.

"I wanted to talk to you."

Parker stares at him a moment, her face full of fury, then raises her free arm and swings at him in an open-handed slap.

*stares respectfully up at Parker* Mew!

Angel's ears rang from the force of the blow.

"Ow!" he rubbed his cheek. "Was that totally - well, okay. But ow! Sharp nails!"

"That wasn't a tenth of the crap you dished out to Rory and Logan on Friday night," Parker growled along with Zero. "You *really* want to talk to me about pain?" She takes a step backward, still holding on to Zero, shaking her head. "Why are you here? What could you *possibly* have to say to me?"

Angel looked her directly in the eye. "You were right."

Marty comes over and pulls out a half pint container of milk that he got from the cafeteria.

"Zero? You want a snack?"

*bounces over to Marty* Mew!

Marty opens up the top of the container of milk and places it down on the counter for Zero to drink.

"I'm not going to get killed by the library staff for feeding you am I?"

*little kitty snort* Mrryaw. Meeeer.

//Highly unlikely. I think they're fattening me up for the kill.//

Marty isn't 100% sure, but it sounds like Kitten!Zero is giving him the all clear on giving her milk. "So with all the students turning into cats around here do you think it's a good idea if I start carrying around a ball of string?"

*Please hold for Zero beating down the cat-side of her brain with a stick. It's far too excited about the idea of string.*

*turns head away from Marty* Ffssst.

Marty looks at Zero with increasing interest.

"So... that's what? A maybe? Or should I just get catnip toys instead?"

Parker paused, setting Zero down on the counter, then studying him as closely as possible. "What? What is this? Are you... I don't get it." She stepped forward, glaring into his eyes. "Did it really work?"

She starts to smile. It isn't a pleasant thing.

*Is a tiny ball of growling pink fury. If one looked closely enough, they might see she is actually vibrating. They are advised not to get close enough to tell, however.*

Angel didn't flinch from her gaze, letting her search his face for whatever it was she was trying to find.

"You were right," he repeated. "You were one of the few people here who saw Angelus for what he really was, and tried to stop him. I know you got into trouble for that. I thought you should know at least one person appreciated it."

"Do you?" Parker shook her head. "There's that much difference between you, then?" Her face darkened. "Can he see me in there? Can he hear what we're saying? He said he could. Was that one more lie?"

"His urges are inside of me," Angel confirmed. "His thoughts, desires, everything - it's all there. But he's not me."

Leaning closer, tension pulling her tight, she whispers, "Got you, you sonuvabitch."

Taking a step back, she says. "So. I have a vested interest in keeping you here-- whoever you are-- and him gone. How do we keep you as miserable as possible? I was thinking: fire ants."

Angel shook his head. "Doesn't work like that. It's not about keeping the day to day miserable - soul does that just fine on its own. It's about avoiding the unusual. That means keeping me away from any magic that can steal the soul from me, and it means avoiding perfect happiness."

Parker snorts. "How often does anyone get perfect happiness? Much less someone like you?" Then she shakes her head. "I have an idea about the mojo, though. If you're sincere, Liam." She frowns. "Or should I call you Angel? I'm not sure I can do that with a straight face."
