Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

The lawn in front of the school was a little bigger than it had been at picnics in the past (thank you, people with positive memories), so there was plenty of space for the blue and gold tables and chairs that got pulled out for every event. A bonfire had been lit in the middle of the lawn, for those who weren't quite prepared for the east coast in December, and there were tables set away from the crowd as well, for those who might want a more quiet place to sit.

[OCD is up! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Loki had not yet been traumatized, so he was still enjoying the picnic.

That had odds of changing soon enough. But, for now, he sampled the feast. The puffs of the violent orange variety were quite good!

"YOU!"

If Loki was expecting more warning before someone punched him in the face, he should probably...not have been Loki. Alex was too smart to give him a chance to start talking.

He was bleeding. Ugh. You suck, Phobos!

"Are you mad?!" Loki demanded, touching his now sore lip.

Um, duh, Loki. "Of course I'm mad! Why else would I punch you in the face?!" Besides for just being Loki. "What are you doing here?"

It might be kind of hard to answer, as Alex didn't really give him a chance to before swinging at him again.

Hercules had seen the boy, but not truly recognized him.

Instead, he had this weird, familiar feeling. And so, he wandered over and pointed.

"Do I know you?" he asked. As you do.

Loki groaned, nursing his bruised face. He did not need another damned Greek bothering him. "No. I am unfamiliar and forgettable."

Especially a Greek who was nothing more than a mere mortal now, too.

"I think the bruises are memorable," Hercules said. "So obviously someone thought you weren't as forgettable as you wish."

"FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!" Kenzi called, gleeful. Then: "Okay, who'll give me 2 to 1 odds on Alex? Any takers?"

Cable had gotten here - late, but he'd gotten here - to keep an eye on the new arrivals. Jan was playing by his feet, messing around with and doing horrible things to her rag dolls.

She got a lot of mileage out of them.

Pinkie? Still there. Still bouncing.

Now also singing.

"Welcome welcome one and all to Fandom High Island!
We're so glad to see you here, some come and file in!
We've got candies, cakes, and juice, treats for one and all!
Come teachers, friends, and students, too, for classes big and smaaaaaaaall! . . ."

"That's a very lovely song," Dorothy said, more than used to the idea of a talking pony. Even a pink one. After all, she'd seen the Horse of a Different Color in the Emerald City. She even gave Pinkie a little round of applause.

Toto, for his part, tried to join along with a bit of a howl. He was not on key at all, sadly.

That's alright, Wynnona could never sing on key, either. "Oh thank you!" Pinkie took a proud bow. "Hi! I'm Pinkie Pie. Are you new students?"

Yes, she included Toto in that question. One never knew around here.

"Well, I am," Dorothy said with a little nod. "I think Toto would have a few problems trying to go to classes. He's my pet, actually."

She curtsied for the pony. "I'm Dorothy Gale. It's very nice to meet you, Miss Pie."

Sam hadn't planned to get to the picnic late, she'd just gotten distracted in her room organizing her collection of various ribs.

What?

Anyway, the picnic meant free food someone else cooked, so Sam was totally there, with a plate loaded high with as many types of meat as she could get her hands on. She looked around, trying to decide which new kids might make good fodder guests for iCarly.

Claudia hung back along the edges, people watching through her sunglasses, wondering how many new students would get talked into taking off their shirts.

The numbers seemed to have gone down recently, she felt. It was a sad state of affairs.

Surreal was far from traumatized, although she'd been sorely tempted to place bets on that fight, over there.

For now, she'd practice her Craft, rolling her ball of witchlight (http://youtu.be/G_IcWf8EVjU) over and under her hands like a huckster would a coin or a ball. Dexterity, concentration, and fine control, all worked on at once.

The ball of witchlight had caught Dorothy's eye... as well as the eye of Toto, who had run over ahead of Dorothy who was not far behind.

"Toto, would you stop running off," Dorothy said, catching up. She scooped the little mutt in her arms and gave Surreal an apologetic smile. "I hope I caught him before he did anything bad," she said to the other girl.

[identity profile] harpy-daughter.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Nothing bad," she assured the new girl, giving the dog a crooked grin. "Nice, pup. You think you can catch this?"

The witchlight levitated off her palm, hovering for a moment before drifting towards Toto's nose.

Toto was an energetic old mutt, and jumped up to try and catch the light in his mouth.

"That's very pretty," Dorothy remarked, watching the light. "You must be a witch, if you can do that."

Despite her odd encounter with the girl from Munchkinland, Dorothy was quite enjoying herself overall. Her big sibling was so generous and kind, her roommate was a god, and she'd met a good witch. This place was getting to seem more fantastical and more amazing than Oz with every minute.

She'd settled in to a seat with Toto at her feet, keeping him from running off for the moment.

"Your dog is adorable," K-Mart couldn't help but say to the girl as she made her way past, stopping to smile. "Is he friendly?" She wasn't going to stick her hand out unless she knew if the dog would welcome attention, after all.

[identity profile] cant-be-helped.livejournal.com 2011-12-31 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, absolutely, yes," Dorothy said. "He's only ever not liked two... well, three people now. Isn't that right, Toto?"

Toto gave a friendly bark and padded over to K-Mart.

Shira had spent a good deal of time exploring the picnic, looking for her Little Sibling. She hadn't managed to find her, which had her feeling rather a failure as a Sibling already -- and then she caught sight of a nametag.

"Cassie Blake? Hi, I'm Shira," she said, offering a hand. "I'm your Big Sibling. I'm sorry it took me this long to find you, it's kind of crazy out here."
