Oh, silly ethics students. You didn't think Anakin would let you get away without an exam, did you? You've had two days to recover from the potential collapse of the multiverse: that's plenty of time.

"This wasn't an exam you could really study for anyway," he said as he passed the papers out. "There are no right or wrong answers--I just want you to answer honestly and explain your reasoning." He looked around the room. "You've all done extremely well this year and I'm proud of you. Enjoy your holidays."

There was a pause as Anakin worked that one through. "Only when I said something Rory didn't like."

There was a pause as Aeryn decided that made no sense in what she thought was context. But she was used to that. Again, married to John.

"I'm sure that never happened..."

"She was more of a coffee-tosser," Anakin said, smiling. "Which, weirdly enough, worked this invasion."

"We had some opponents--not the Nothing, but kind related to it somehow--who weren't used to being human. They could be overwhelmed by taste. The students were having too much fun throwing chocolates."

"You defeated the enemy... with chocolate." She wished this wasn't over the phone so she could properly stare at him.

"I used my lightsaber," Anakin said. "I think Jaina used alcohol."

"And this made... whatever happened happen? Beings that could be defeated with chocolate and alcohol?" Aeryn felt less badass now.

"I'm still not sure," Anakin said. "I get the impression they kind of...contracted out for the Nothing."

"That's what the Empress we met called it," Anakin said. "I think it was originally from her world and spread."

"Then that Empress fails," Aeryn decided, because things should be that simple. "She can keep her problems to herself."

"I would have mentioned that, but sadly, I was one of the cooler heads in our delegation to meet her," Anakin said. "Bel was with me."

Anakin snorted. "I let him off with a warning," he said. "Besides, I think all of the students were on my side about what a pain he was."

Or at least he liked to think so.

"Which is the way it should be." Okay, not that Aeryn had spent a lot of time with Bel or anything, but she did remember that whole trying-to-unsoul Angel thing and wasn't forgetting it. "Did you at least hit him? A little?"

"Rory might," Anakin admitted. "She makes sure the phone's always charged in case Juliet does something cute or I get bit by a gremlin."

"Radio said there was something about alcoholism and being a detective, I think."

"I realize that I am still sometimes incredibly new here," she said, "but I don't think those two things should go together."

"Generally not very effectively," Anakin replied, "though it shows up in movies about private detectives whose wives have left them."
