Professor Chaucer: Office Hours

Chaucer will be in his office today for anyone with questions, complaints, or really good gossip. He wouldn't be averse to a cup of espresso, either.

Paige walks in and is indeed carrying two cups of coffee (it's like she knew!)

"Should I withdraw my offer of being your TA Geoff?" she says handing him a cup

"Thank you, Paige! No, I'm not asking you to withdraw. But I do want to give the other students another chance to sign up -- with all of the excitement over parents weekend, I imagine a few things were forgotten." He sips at the coffee. "Also, to be honest...I don't want to give the impression of favoritism. I know that's not fair to you, but...I think it's an issue we're going to need to stay aware of."

She raises an eyeborw "favouritism? I never expected anything like that, I'm keen to prove myself in class." she says sipping her coffee "I can see how other people might see things that way though, but I can keep our personal and pofessional lives seperate. I just thought I should offer in case it was an issue for you."

"I appreciate that, Paige. And I know you have no expectations of special treatment, I'd just like to make certain everyone else knows that. As I said, it isn't fair to you...but I appreciate your understanding.

I'll make a decision by the end of the week, and then I'll let you know?"

"that's fine, I just wanted to make sure you knew I didn't mind withdrawing. I guess this whole situation is a little odd, mind you at this school it's nothing really is it?" she laughs thinking about how she's dated Chuacer and danced with Beethoven.

Marty walks into the office looking very tired and worried.

"Uh Geo- I mean Professor Chaucer? Um..."

Marty takes a deep breath.

"I didn't really get a chance to talk to you after waking up last Thursday. I remember you saying I was acting drunk but... I don't remember anything that happened before it."

"It's good to see you, Marty. We're not in class, and you're not in any of my classes anyway, so I see no reason for you not to call me Geoff. Sit down. You look very tired." He gives Marty a concerned look.

Marty sighs. "The last thing I remember was walking with Rory and that dog of hers and then waking up the next morning at your place. Geoff... A lot of things happened Thursday night and anything you can tell me about how I ended up there would be helpful.'

"I wish I could help you, Marty. All I know is that you showed up at my shop, alone, and acting very strangely. As if you were drunk or...maybe drugged. I barely got you upstairs before you collapsed. You were ranting about someone chasing you, and...popcorn? I think. And maybe a grocer?" He shakes his head. "You weren't injured, I just let you sleep it off. I've actually been wanting to ask you what had happened."

Marty face goes pale.

"Oh, this is not good."

She sighs. "My parents are getting separated. Apparently my dad is dating this ... this woman he works with."

Geoff gives the metal hand a slightly worried look, but gamely shakes it anyway. "Of course, I'd forgotten you teach art. Well-rounded -- that's good!" He grins. "You realize, if you were to come on as my assistant, that you'd have to read the assigned books as well, right?"

[Geoff is sitting leaned back in his chair, feet propped up on the desk. He looks up from the book he's reading at the knock.]

Ten! [Puts the book down and drops his feet to the floor] Um, come in, please.

[Geoff colors a little, but smiles at the gift.] Thank you. And no, you weren't any sort of a bastard yesterday. There's...nothing to apologize for. If I'd been thinking straight, I wouldn't have said...what I did. Whether or not you asked me to. [He looks a bit uncomfortable.]
