Try Not to Die!! [Tuesday, June 21st]
"Since this is our last class together," Anakin said, standing before the students on the causeway, "I've made your tasks a little more difficult today."
Anyone else have a bad feeling about that? Good. "Read your clues carefully, follow the directions of the locals--as much as you can understand them if you aren't fluent in what seems to be ancient Greek--and try not to die." With that he stepped back from the clue box.

Detour: Leaping or Skewering
There was also the reminder you could change tasks midway through.
Detour: Leaping
Yes, the animal. Yes, to a handstand....at least you got some tries on a non-moving bit of animal hide for as long as you wanted before attempting the bull himself?
Don't. Die. You only have to do it correctly once, then you get your next clue.
Re: Detour: Leaping
You know, for all of the freaking out that Warren did as the massive horned animal barrelled toward him, he actually managed the handstand over the bull's back like a pro. One of these days, logic would dictate that his mutant physiology was actually useful in situations like this, and he wouldn't kill precious minutes before the fact by freaking out and trying to nerve himself up to it.
It was kind of anticlimactic, really, after all the hanging back and trying to talk himself up to it that he'd done beforehand.
Re: Detour: Leaping
While she hadn't done anything quite like this before, she had a good sense of balance and quick reflexes. Besides the worst thing that could happen would be dying.
Not that she did.

Detour: Skewering
Re: Detour: Skewering
So fishing. Which she had done before, but... never with a trident. Catching fish in such a way that they weren't mutilated by the time they left the water turned out to be tougher than you'd think.
Re: Detour: Skewering
Amazingly enough, Sam managed to catch his fish in quick succession. They seemed to leap onto his trident and, quicker than he expected, he was done and heading away from the task.
Re: Detour: Skewering
He didn't even end up with any fish that didn't pass muster. Of course, it helped that he wasn't quick enough with the trident to catch anything small, so. It took a while, but eventually his pile of fish reached twenty.
Re: Detour: Skewering
Still, given the choice between that and bull-leaping . . . the ankle that was just barely healed up was one that she'd managed to sprain doing a somersault over a fixed pole. There was no way she was duplicating the feat over a moving animal with horns. So fishing it was, complete with a lot of swearing and flailing around and getting tangled up in the net and falling over into the water and scaring the fish
because in any episode involving Gabrielle and a body of water it was obligatory for her to get fanservicey soaking wet.Really, all she needed was slapstick-y music going in the background, but eventually she caught her twenty fish and got to move on.
. . . she suspected the being-soaking-wet part had helped sway the fishing master's opinion in her favor. Which was cause to sigh, but she was used to that.
Re: Detour: Skewering
When he found out that the task involved fishing, he was grumpy. He'd never used a trident before, but he'd trained with a net and spear once or twice at Garden, and it shouldn't be that hard. Still...
Screw that.
He summoned Leviathan, and in no time the sea monster had caught a large pile of fish and brought them to shore. After that, he had to work to try to stop the fishing master from running away, but he managed to get the next clue.

Re: Detour: Skewering
Even if she felt bad skewering them with a trident.
Re: Detour: Skewering
and he didn't yet know that he could die that many times. Fishing it was then.Somehow it didn't take nearly as long as he'd feared to catch 20 acceptable fish. Maybe the gods were smiling on him, or maybe the crumbs he'd tossed into the water had helped. What, he'd been hungry and there hadn't been a trash can nearby, so the crumbs had hung around his pocket until they came in handy.
