Outdoor Activities, Monday Period 1, Week 2

Steve was nothing if not prompt, but today he started the workshop a few minutes late, to allow students who'd discovered the sudden climate change only on coming outside time to go back and change into something they wouldn't overheat in.

Once everyone was assembled and signed in (and properly attired) he said, "Right, then, FALL IN," and blew the whistle before setting off on their run. PEEP!

Sam wondered if he'd ever get used to the change in temperature. Just when he'd gotten used to the chilly temperatures of Iceland, the island decided to move again and now it was like a hyped up version of summer.

If Sam were one to grumble, he would have been while he stretched and wondered if he was going to end up sunburned.

Having discovered a bunch of videos online that demonstrated stretching far better than the print-outs he'd been using, Marshall at least had a better sense of how to get ready for the day's workout.

Not that he was happy about it, necessarily, but feeling prepared definitely did improve his mood at least a little.

The sunshine was all Butters needed to be awake and ready to go for his favorite class! That, and the prospect of getting to go to his job today when it was done, too! So he stretched out nice and good and get ready for some outdoor activities!

Mercy stretched out, really enjoying the warmth of the day.

Tony was just going to continue to grumble about doing extra work. This was totally punishment for skipping a day, wasn't it?

He was onto you, Steve!

Sam was actually prepared for this today but man, did it feel different when it was so hot outside. He was sucking air by the end but did manage to do finish up with the sets of twenty.

The heat definitely was taking its toll on Marshall, but he pushed through, even if he was ready to drop by the end of the twenties.

Mercy actually didn't mind the heat that much. She ran like the wind, not feeling much like trying to stay more than nominally within human limits, and then whipped through the other exercises.

The heat didn't bother either wolf enough to actually slow them down when it came to running. Blind Seer did wonder if there ought to be something he was doing while the humans (or those who were human-shaped) did their other post-running exercises, though.

At least it was a dry heat here. A nice, horribly dry heat. With sand.

"Couldn't we do this in a nice air conditioned gym?" Tony whined as he ran. Multitasking!

Billy tried to do all the pushups, but between the heat and his general lack of athleticism, it took longer than it probably should have.

Sam wasn't even going to try for the bragging rights. He just wanted to make sure he finished each activity without falling on his face. The rope climb wasn't that hard though his arms were definitely feeling it when he reached the top. He really needed to get more into shape.

The tires were a little easier and while his foot caught the lip of one of them, he kept his balance and powered through the rest, finishing up easily. Sam hoped his luck in this class wouldn't run out.

This? Cakewalk. Coyotes were not only quick, they were strong and graceful. She was up and down the rope and through the tires in no time.

Firekeeper took great pride in her ability to climb like a spider despite being a wolf, and today was no different, scrambling up and down quickly. Once she was done that, she took off through the tires. Blind Seer had skipped the rope portion due to lack of opposable thumbs but had no trouble with the tires.

Re: Activity Time

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Climbing the rope was more difficult than Marshall expected -- clearly upper-body strength was something he needed to work on -- but while he wasn't exactly fast, he made it through the tires fairly well.

Re: Activity Time

[identity profile] hoorayimrich.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The tires weren't so bad, really. Because someone had been focusing mostly on the running part of exercise and less on the ass kicking.

But the rope... oh, the rope taunted him so with its upper body strength needing attributes. But he'd give it a shot. And grumbled under his breath the whole time. "Build a machine to do this..."

Running through the tires wasn't so bad, but the rope was a little daunting. If anyone else was teaching this class, he might have cheated and flown up the rope, but that definitely wasn't going to work here.

Sam's first (and only) answer was a sarcastic one so he kept his mouth busy by chugging down water and cooling down. Egypt was definitely damn hot.

"It builds stamina," Mercy pointed out. "And if you ever have to really evade someone through difficult terrain, it's good practice."

Not that a coyote known for annoying werewolves ever had to go tearing through the woods to try and outrun and evade said werewolves, oh no.

Re: Cooldown Time

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Marshall considered this for a moment as he took a bottle of water. Clearly he could apply physics here, right?

"Well, climbing the rope..." he began. "Uh. Well, it would be really good for upper body strength? And you don't need a lot of equipment for it, because you're fighting against gravity using your own body as a counterweight." That made sense! Marshall was going to go with that, yes.

"You're a sadist?" Tony offered from his spot laying on the ground. "And obstacles. Because running isn't always on a well worn path with nothing in your way."

And the teacher was a sadist. He couldn't express that enough.
