BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

Oh, hey, fat cakes! Well, that made it a little better!

"Hey," Topher said, leaning forward in Sam's direction. "Lemme get one?"

Look at that, he was being social!

Sam eyed him suspiciously, clutching her fat cake to her chest before a little voice -- that sounded suspiciously like Carly -- reminded her that she might want to actually try making friends. Also, that she possibly had more fat cakes packed than underwear.

"Yeah, okay. But just this once." She pulled another cake from her suitcase and offered it over. "Then you have to find your own."

"Could find my own," he said, accepting the proffered cake. "Buried under about a hundred wires in there." He jerked his head in the direction of his duffel.

Clearly not worth the effort, when he could have one handed to him.

"You packed wires?" Sam said, a clear smirk in her voice. "Don't tell me, you're an AV club kinda guy."

"Guilty as charged."

He sized her up, overlooking the obvious smirky disdain. "And you're not." Then, a beat. "Not a cheerleader, either, which is at least a couple points."

"Only when we do our 'cheerleaders in space' sketches. Then I tempt people to the dark side of the cheerleading force." Yeah, she kind of just assumed he'd know what she was talking about. Someone was getting used to being recognized.

"Uh."

Now, Topher was a closet web show watcher, yes, but unfortunately that was restricted to those web shows that existed in his dimension. So, you know. Not iCarly.

"Sketches?"

"You know, short comedy bits, meant to make you laugh or sometimes groan. . . ." Sam blinked. "You've totally never seen iCarly, have you. What kind of AV geek are you supposed to be?"

"You're kidding," he said, a smile quirking at his mouth. "You do a web show? Dude, that's awesome."

So... the oblivious kind, Sam, yeah.

Well, he was right about it being awesome, at least. "That's me. Sam Puckett." She offered the hand not currently clutching her fat cake. "Internet star. Our tech nub's around here, somewhere."

"Yeah?" Topher could spot a tech nub from a mile away. Unfortunately, he was eating, so that would have to wait.

"So what kinds of stuff do you do on that show of yours, anyway?" he asked. In the meantime, he decided to take back what he said about the not-sifting-through-wires thing, and rummaged through his duffel for a tube of Pringles. "You want?" he offered, holding it out.

"You know, random dancing, Messing With Lewbert. . . . Pretty much, if it's funny or weirdly awesome, we put it on the show. Ooo, chips." She happily grabbed a handful of Pringles and stuffed some in her mouth, along side a decent sized bite of fat cake. "You're not one of those French poodle puppet fan people, are you?"

French... poodle puppets? That'd be a definite no.

"Not sure I've ever seen those, but I'm gonna say no," he said around a mouthful of chips. Gross, yes. Sorry, Sam. "And messing with anyone with a name that lame's gotta be fun."

This was part of his ethics system. Don't question it.

"He's the doorman at Carly's building," Sam explained, clearly not put off by the grossness of talking with one's mouth full. "He's got this huge wart on his face. I think it might have its own zip code."

"Ew," Topher sympathized. But not so "ew," of course, as to keep him from eating. Such levels of "ew" didn't exist.

"And Carly is... your tech person?"

Silly Topher.

Sam snorted. "Right. Our tech person is totally the one with their name in the title."

Oh. Duh. He could totally keep up with new information.

"Gotcha," Topher said, chastened. "Well. Sounds cool, anyway."

"It is." Sam was totally modest. "Hey, maybe you could be on it, sometime. Can you shoot milk out of your eyes?"

"Uh, nope," Topher said, raising his eyebrows. "That I'd kind of like to see, though."

"It's pretty awesome." She pulled out her battered-looking PearPhone to see if she could get any reception. "I think we still have a clip of it up on our website."

"Oh, for real?" Topher asked, and clambored out of his chair to sit on top of his duffel next to Sam. "I gotta tell you, weird talent web shows? Best thing ever." Then he spotted the fat cake wrapper he'd dropped on the floor and revised his priorities. "Well, after fat cakes."

Sam glanced over and smiled. "You have surprisingly good taste, for a nub." She called up the clip of the kid shooting milk out of his eyes in their first episode. "See, check it out. There's a girl who plays a trumpet while using a pogo stick, too."

Wow. That kid was... that kid was really shooting milk out of his eyes.

"Man," he said, whistling. "You know, I've always kind of wondered, how do you find these people?"

"Carly and I got stuck taping the talent show auditions at our school a couple years ago. After that, people just started sending stuff in."

"Huh."

Topher ran through his mental inventory of skills, trying to see if any of them were web show material. Sadly, they were not.

"That's pretty awesome."
