BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

Sam did that, sometimes.

"Lots of stuff." She flipped through the site. "Oh, here's where Carly and I tried to eat a rain of raisins."

"Wow," he marveled. "Did you manage it?"

He, personally, was not a fan of raisins. But alliteration was fun!

"We managed not to get any in our eyes." That was because they wore goggles.

The goggles made it less awesome.

"Not bad," said Topher, impressed. "How many raisins was it?"

Because that was important.

Sam snorted. "I didn't count them." What did he think she was, a nub?

Well... only a little.

"Well, was it, like, a lot?"

"Wouldn't be a rain if there were only a couple."

"Could be a drizzle."

This was a weird conversation.

"But then it wouldn't have that neat word thingy ring to it."

Alliteration, Sam. If you didn't space out through English class, you'd know that.

Topher hadn't gone to an English class since eighth grade, so he was right there with her.

"That's fair," he conceded. "But raisin drizzle sounds like a rap name."

"It does." Sam looked very thoughtful at that. She bet Gibby or Spencer could come up with an excellent Raisin Drizzle character. "You mind if we use that?"

"Go for it," Topher said, waving a hand. "Happy to contribute to the arts."

For the love of god, Sam, do not ask Topher to play said character. He was far, far too white.

Honestly? So were Spencer and Gibby.

"Sweet. This school might not be so bad, after all."

"Let's hope," Topher said, shrugging. "Might be cool if I didn't have to get kicked out, yeah."

He had an interesting perception of accountability.

It probably wasn't far from Sam's perception of such, actually.

"I've found the key for that is to get someone else to take the fall for you."

Topher nodded, impressed. "It would work," he agreed. "Except, you know. I got kicked out for changing my grade. Not too many other people I can blame for that."

Since he had exactly zero friends.

"I did that for a friend of mine, once. She totally deserved to get that A, though."

"Yeah! And so did I!" Topher exclaimed, glad to have found someone with similar values. "I mean, sure, I never went to that class, but come on. I speak English every day, so obviously I know it."

He rolled his eyes. People were stupid.

"Exactly!" Okay, if Topher weren't carrying around a bunch of wires, he might actually be cool. "And who cares what happened which day in history? It's not like it was last week."

"Exactly!" Clearly, they were brain twins. Which made Sam cool, because Topher was cool. Duh. "School, man. It's the worst."

Except science. He got to blow stuff up for fun.

"Yeah, well, between school and juvie, I do have to pick school."

She got to wear better clothes at school.

Topher whistled. Yikes. Juvie.

"Sucks," he said, shrugging in sympathy. See, Sam, that was alliteration.

Oh sure, get all fancy in the narrative.

"Totally. Momma does not look good wearing an orange jumpsuit."

Topher sized her up.

"True," he conceded.

Very true.

Sam noted the sizing up, and maybe did a little in return, before concluding that she could totally take him if she wanted to.

She was scrappy, that way.

"I think it's the point. Go to juvie, get stuck in bad clothes."
