BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

"Not sure I've ever seen those, but I'm gonna say no," he said around a mouthful of chips. Gross, yes. Sorry, Sam. "And messing with anyone with a name that lame's gotta be fun."

This was part of his ethics system. Don't question it.

"He's the doorman at Carly's building," Sam explained, clearly not put off by the grossness of talking with one's mouth full. "He's got this huge wart on his face. I think it might have its own zip code."

"Ew," Topher sympathized. But not so "ew," of course, as to keep him from eating. Such levels of "ew" didn't exist.

"And Carly is... your tech person?"

Silly Topher.

Sam snorted. "Right. Our tech person is totally the one with their name in the title."

Oh. Duh. He could totally keep up with new information.

"Gotcha," Topher said, chastened. "Well. Sounds cool, anyway."

"It is." Sam was totally modest. "Hey, maybe you could be on it, sometime. Can you shoot milk out of your eyes?"

"Uh, nope," Topher said, raising his eyebrows. "That I'd kind of like to see, though."

"It's pretty awesome." She pulled out her battered-looking PearPhone to see if she could get any reception. "I think we still have a clip of it up on our website."

"Oh, for real?" Topher asked, and clambored out of his chair to sit on top of his duffel next to Sam. "I gotta tell you, weird talent web shows? Best thing ever." Then he spotted the fat cake wrapper he'd dropped on the floor and revised his priorities. "Well, after fat cakes."

Sam glanced over and smiled. "You have surprisingly good taste, for a nub." She called up the clip of the kid shooting milk out of his eyes in their first episode. "See, check it out. There's a girl who plays a trumpet while using a pogo stick, too."

Wow. That kid was... that kid was really shooting milk out of his eyes.

"Man," he said, whistling. "You know, I've always kind of wondered, how do you find these people?"

"Carly and I got stuck taping the talent show auditions at our school a couple years ago. After that, people just started sending stuff in."

"Huh."

Topher ran through his mental inventory of skills, trying to see if any of them were web show material. Sadly, they were not.

"That's pretty awesome."

That's alright, he could still attempt to identify what he was sitting on while blindfolded, or something.

"That's what won us an iWeb award," said Sam.

"Wow, an iWeb?" Topher marveled. "That puts you right up there with the cat flushing a toilet, bro. Nice."

"I wish my cat could flush the toilet," Sam mused. "You know, when Mom remembers to pay the water bill."

Uh. That was maybe a little too real, there, Sam.

"Huh," Topher said.

A pauase.

"So... what else have you had on your show?"

Sam did that, sometimes.

"Lots of stuff." She flipped through the site. "Oh, here's where Carly and I tried to eat a rain of raisins."

"Wow," he marveled. "Did you manage it?"

He, personally, was not a fan of raisins. But alliteration was fun!

"We managed not to get any in our eyes." That was because they wore goggles.

The goggles made it less awesome.

"Not bad," said Topher, impressed. "How many raisins was it?"

Because that was important.

Sam snorted. "I didn't count them." What did he think she was, a nub?

Well... only a little.

"Well, was it, like, a lot?"

"Wouldn't be a rain if there were only a couple."

"Could be a drizzle."

This was a weird conversation.
