Wesley was reading. Because last week he'd been mocked on the radio for reading that bright purple book about how to talk to girls, today he was ready to not be mocked on the radio. Oh, yes. Today he was reading about giraffes.

Yes, that should be better.

Momoko frowned slightly, both at Karla's expression and her words. "What do you mean? Do you not have ghosts in your world? I can try to explain, if you like?"

"We have ghosts," Karla said. "They're what's left of souls too strong to fade into the Darkness, but not strong enough to cross over into being demon-dead. But Raven...she wasn't a ghost."

Karla held up the book she was reading so Momoko could see the title, Resurrection: A Short Treatise.

The title liiiiiiied.

"That's the same as ours. But what do you mean she wasn't a ghost?" Momoko asked, before nearly dropping her bag as she read the title. "You didn't! Karla, tell me you didn't try to bring her back!"

But that didn't really sound like Karla... "No, you're too smart for that. Okay." Momoko took a deep breath. "Uhm, you think someone/i> is trying to?"

"I wouldn't even know where to begin," Karla said firmly. "My Craft doesn't work that way."

Or if it did, it was one of those things that only Jaenelle knew and she wasn't telling anyone.

"I don't know if someone did, or has, or will or what. She just appeared for a moment. One heartbeat there, the next gone! Stolen away by these flamey hands. So I'm trying to figure out the what or the how and see if there's anything I can find to get her back."

"Were they, like, real hands, or just fire that kind of looked like hands?"

"Fire that looked like hands, I think," Karla said, frowning. "Rather, hands made of fire."

"Ah!" That totally meant demons. Well, in Momoko's limited experience, it did. "And she was really there? Not like, just a vision or something, right?"

"Really, truly, and physically there," Karla said with a nod. "Even if I wasn't sure, Sookie was there, too, and it felt like Raven to her. So...I just don't know. I'm not even sure how I feel yet. Too much all jumbled up, you know?"

Momoko was... totally going to have to call Dinah about this.

"Having friends that are from different worlds mean even the things we think are totally obvious end up getting all mixed up and we don't know what we're even thinking sometimes." She hesitated a minute. "I totally don't want to say this? But if we were in my world, and we ruled out ghosts, the fire hands totally make me think of a demon."

Karla winced. That was one option she really, really hadn't wanted to think about before. "It's...really, entirely possible," she admitted reluctantly. "This whole thing kind of...started off with demons." She wasn't going to mention that demon had been Raven's dad, but still. "I was hoping we'd moved to, like, a demon-free zone, what with killing that last one, but..."

If Raven had been resurrected, what was to say that Trigon hadn't been, too?

Momoko stared. "How did you kill a demon?! Demons aren't alive. Or, I guess, I should say that mine aren't. We can only seal ours. Well, and remove their powers."

She pinched her lip, trying to think back to her class with Mr Winchester. "If you killed it... did you just send it back to the spirit world?"

Because wouldn't that be where Raven went when she died?

"Nooooo," Karla said, shaking her head. "This demon was very much alive. But I don't know what happened to him after he died. I don't know what happens in this world, never mind someone else's." She rubbed her eyes tiredly and jotted a few things down. "Maybe Dinah knows," she said. "Raven's world is really close to hers."

But Momoko had information and Karla couldn't just dismiss it. "What can you tell me about the spirit world?" she asked. "I don't know anything about something like that."

Momoko hesitated, "I don't know much, really. It's like our world, with rules and sections? And it's where the demons and spirits live, of course. We call it the yōkai. There's places and times you can cross between the worlds, too. Obon is one of them."

She frowned, pinching her lip. "Which is one of the reasons we take away their powers and seal the really bad ones." She'd never heard of killing a demon, but... different worlds, different rules.
