Wesley was reading. Because last week he'd been mocked on the radio for reading that bright purple book about how to talk to girls, today he was ready to not be mocked on the radio. Oh, yes. Today he was reading about giraffes.

Yes, that should be better.

...Yeah. That's all I had to contribute here.

Scully was catching up on her Differential Equations and Russian. And waiting for Momoko, who needed help with her studying, and had been bribed to actually go into the Library with a promise of mochas.

After the studying of course. Heathens.

On a break from Russian, and her advanced Anatomy, Scully wandered over to ~~pester~~ ~~interrogate~~ question Wesley.

"Do you have a moment, Wesley?"

Giraffes! :D

"Certainly," said Wes, putting down the giraffe book. It wasn't that interesting anyway. "What can I help you with?"

Karla...pretty much had no idea where to begin researching things like "brought back from the dead" and "grabby red hands of fire." Which meant she was beelining for the desk in hopes that the student aide would know.

If she could tear him away from his scintillating book on giraffes, anyway.

At first, Wes was enjoying his book too much to notice that there was someone at the desk. (Apparently a fully-grown giraffe's neck could weigh as much as 500 pounds!) Then he became aware that someone was there, so he reluctantly looked up.

"Can I help you?"

"I hope so?" Karla said. Darkness, this was probably going to be awkward. "I need to find out how people can be brought back from the dead. And also, about hands made out of flames that can snatch people away. And if there's an overlap between the two, I need to start with that one. Uhh, does the library have anything like that?"

"We were going to talk about magical and alternate dimensions once, a long while ago?" Scully said, setting her elbows on the counter. "Do you still have books on the subject?"

Awkward? Psh... no...

"Er," he said. "Resurrection spells... you should be able to find them over there," he said, pointing over to a dusty row of shelves toward the back. "There might not be all that many, as I think the majority of them are in Special Collections, but there should be a few books with theoretical passages, at least."

The other part was trickier. "I'm not certain about the flaming hands bit. Perhaps you could start your search with the resurrection spells and I can check the computer database?"

And hopefully figure out how to use it?

Ah! Yes! His favorite.

"I'm sure I can find some," he said, getting up. He decided to be really helpful and take her over to the corresponding section. Wasn't he generous?

There was indeed a section for magical and alternate dimensions. It consisted of eight books, and one of them looked like it might be in Enochian. Explore away, Scully.

Karla gave Wesley a look of pure gratitude and relief. She's expected a lot more in the way of questions and weird expressions. "Would you?" she asked. "That would be amazing. Thank you so much."

Theoretical passages would hopefully be enough, since Karla wasn't actually planning on resurrecting anyone. But if she could get an idea how such a thing would be done, she might have a better idea of what happened to Raven.

Presuming she could make heads or tails of the books, of course. "Please, let me know as soon as you find something!"

After ransacking the section Wesley had pointed to for any books that even suggested they might know something about resurrection, Karla took over a table and began reading and taking notes, hoping to find anything that might help explain what had happened last night.

Oh, there were questions and weird expressions, but he saved them for once she walked away. Huh. That was a nice distraction from the giraffe book, anyway.

After a few minutes of tentative exploration of the database, he came up with exactly one book that had information about flaming hands. And it just so happened to be in the wrong section! Awesome. Wesley went on a mission to find it, and eventually found it stashed somewhere in the middle of Children's Literature. That was definitely not where it belonged.

Grousing a bit about people who didn't shelve things properly, he brought it over to Karla. "This should have something about what you're looking for," he said.

Yay being helpful!

"This is it?" Scully looked slightly disappointed, but picked out three of the books, flipping through them carefully as they looked extremely old and more than a little fragile. ~~Book modding! ha!~~ "Which one do you recommend? And what language is this one in?"

"Enochian," Wesley replied absently as he perused the other offerings. Then his face lit up. "Oh, this is one of my favorites," he said, drawing a surprisingly well-kept book from the shelf. "The Wynthrop Anthology of Dimensions."

He may have had to memorize parts of it in eighth grade. And maybe it was, to this day, one of his favorite books to read for pleasure. Sigh.

"An anthology?" Scully asked, intrigued, and smiled at the book-loving expression on Wesley's face. "Why that one in particular? If you don't mind me asking." She was giving the one in Enochian (the heck?) a look of covert dismay.

"There are different chapters for different types of dimensions," he explained, flipping through it. "And each known dimension is described in detail, sometimes with pictures and testimonials." Actually, it was kind of like a travel guide.

"For example," he said, turning to a random page, "this bit focuses on -- ah. The world without shrimp." There was a picture of food. There was no shrimp in the picture. How helpful.

Karla looked up from her book, where she was following a flow chart about whether or not a resurrection was a good thing (so far the answer seemed to be 'unless the dead person in question was the messiah, or was being resurrected by a good-aligned god, no no oh dear lord no!'). "Thank you," she said, setting it aside to reach for the book Wesley had found. "Maybe this one will have some useful information in it."

Namely, something more than a treatise on the best kind of blood to use for a resurrection or a handy guide to raising your own phoenix.

Scully looked from him to the picture, and raised an eyebrow. Seriously, Wesley? Still. It might help? "Does it say how they accessed these other dimensions in there?"
