Being a Proper Sea Dog, Friday, Period 3 [Session 2]

Hook's time spent reading the Danger Shop instructions had paid off. Today's class met inside that wonderous room of programmable places, where Hook had created a simple replica of a three masted vessel.

He had a series of handouts for the students, showing illustrations of various knots.

"Today we're going over that staple of seamanship," Hook declared, after the handouts were passed among the students. "Knots. Rope is very important, very important indeed for the average ship. And before we can go into things such as rigging and nets and so forth, you need to learn the basic knots. For practice today, and for a bit of fun, we're going to split into pairs. You'll practice tying your partner to something on the ship. A mast, the wheel, the anchor, something. The idea is to use a knot that you think will hold them tightly. The partner then, of course, is to try and break free. If your partner fails to break free, then bravo. Midway through the time of the class, please untie your partner if they've not already obtained their freedom, then switch places as to who is being tied to what."

Hook chuckled. "And no, no one is allowed to tie me to anything."

He snapped his fingers. "Chop chop, get to it, that's a good crew. It's all very self explanatory. Yo ho and all that."

[ooc: OCD first, plz Up and ready to go!]

"Well this is kinky," Luke mumbled to himself as he looked over the handout. He was good at getting out of knots so, hey, how hard could actually tying them be?

Knot tying didn't sound all that hard, really. He'd sailed before, this sort of thing was in his blood so he assumed he'd be a natural. He still tried to pay attention and made sure to look over his handout.

Now here was a handout Nico thought might prove useful one day! He tried a little harder to read through the steps to tying one of the knots, possibly imagining the task a little differently than others.

Jason looked over the handout with more than a little amusement. There were knots here he wasn't familiar with, so it was useful information, but probably not in the way Hook expected. It was all he could do to not look at Nico, or he'd completely lose his composure.

Hank studied the handout intently. Then he flipped it upside-down, in case it made any more sense that way. Knots were hard!

Luke sat around waiting for a partner, keeping himself entertained by seeing if he could tie his own wrists up. He probably could if you gave him a moment. Houdini was his half-brother, stuff like this was in his genes.

"You know, I'm supposed to do that," Hank pointed out as he sat down. "Howdy! Let's be partners, pardner!"

"Are you a cowboy?" Luke couldn't help but ask.

Even though Percy saw Luke was without a partner, he knew his cousin would easily slip knots and he wanted someone this might work on. Besides, he so didn't need Nico and Jason teasing about it being some kinky foreplay.

"If you can manage knots, yeah, why not?" Percy asked, shrugging. "Never been tied up by a talking frog before."

Claudia could totally do knot tying and escapism. Totally.

It was all just, like, a form of physics, right?

"Heya!" Zack offered Claudia a little grin as he held up a length of rope. "Looking for a partner?"

He could so handle this knots thing, honest. It couldn't possibly be all that hard, right? It was just rope.

Jason had grabbed some rope, and was practicing some of the knots as he looked around for a partner. He might have been looking in one specific direction as subtly as possible.

When the class broke up for the activity, Nico snagged a piece of rope and meandered over to where Jason was being completely obvious with his looks. "I don't suppose you're in need of practice tying people up, huh?"

"It just so happens that I might be needing that skill in the future," Jason said, holding back the leer that would accompany that comment if they weren't in class. "Would you be willing to help me practice?"
