Being a Proper Sea Dog, Friday, Period 3 [Session 2]

Hook's time spent reading the Danger Shop instructions had paid off. Today's class met inside that wonderous room of programmable places, where Hook had created a simple replica of a three masted vessel.

He had a series of handouts for the students, showing illustrations of various knots.

"Today we're going over that staple of seamanship," Hook declared, after the handouts were passed among the students. "Knots. Rope is very important, very important indeed for the average ship. And before we can go into things such as rigging and nets and so forth, you need to learn the basic knots. For practice today, and for a bit of fun, we're going to split into pairs. You'll practice tying your partner to something on the ship. A mast, the wheel, the anchor, something. The idea is to use a knot that you think will hold them tightly. The partner then, of course, is to try and break free. If your partner fails to break free, then bravo. Midway through the time of the class, please untie your partner if they've not already obtained their freedom, then switch places as to who is being tied to what."

Hook chuckled. "And no, no one is allowed to tie me to anything."

He snapped his fingers. "Chop chop, get to it, that's a good crew. It's all very self explanatory. Yo ho and all that."

[ooc: OCD first, plz Up and ready to go!]

"Uhm..." Robin looked around. It couldn't be anything very high up of course. "How about that barrel over there?" It meant Percy'd have to be sitting down for the tying.

"Yeah, that works for me," Percy said, gesturing Robin over towards the barrel and making his way over. He settled down into a sitting position and put his hands in his lap. "Good like this?"

"Yeah that's good." Robin nodded. He got the rope, and began to loop it around Percy and the barrel. Being a Frogscout, Robin had his knot tying merit badge. So those were good.

But being a very small frog, he wasn't very strong, so the ropes weren't all that tight.

Well, he was doing better than Percy had guessed and he pushed against the ropes with his arms a few times just to test the knot.

"Knot holding?" he asked Robin.

Robin checked. "Yup!" he said proudly. "It's not too tight is it?"

"Nah, I'm good," he said and grinned. "Not bad for a little guy. Where'd you learn to tie knots?"

"Frogscouts. The Everglades Troop. It's one of the first merit badges I got." Right after the Punk badge.

"Not bad," Percy complimented, giving the ropes another tug. "Never heard of the Frogscouts but they taught some pretty good knots."

"They might be exclusive to my world." Robin said. "I've only ever met one person in Fandom who'd even heard of the Muppets."

"Well, they taught you well," he said and pushed against the ropes again. "You wanna untie me so I can tie you now? No Frogscouts for me but I bet I can do okay."

"Sure." Robin agreed, undoing the knots. "So what do you think of the teacher? He's not quite how I pictured him in the book."
