Library [09/26]

There was music in the library today. It wasn't the same, loud, pervasive music that Jonothon normally opted to, however. Today it was almost like a whisper of music. Like a hundred little voices all joining together in song.

... Or, more accurately, the rustling of the pages of every book on the subject of music in the entire library, all rising up in glorious, but quiet, harmony.

They'd just finished Sound of Silence, and were moving on with Scarborough Fair when Jono came in, levelled that aisle with a look, and then shook his head and set to work shelving things. Occasionally, things that were singing at him.

Ah, Fandom.

[Open! And listening to Simon and Garfunkel.]

~Sail on, silver girl... sail on by....~

Scully was resolutely ignoring the books... well, up until the point where she tried to interrogate one about "why Simon and Garfunkel?" and just got Sounds of Silence in return.

Sighhhh. Then she was back studying her Russian, and humming along, very softly, very off-key.

"Studying?" Rosalind enquired abruptly, leaning against the back of the chair.

Hellos were... not for her today, apparently.

"Mmmm?" Scully looked up from her Russian cases, and smiled. "Attempting to. This language has far too many tenses and changes to it. Are you here to study too?"

"I," she said, with grave dignity, "came to ensure that Jono was working. He requires supervision."

Or, translated: Jono was her friend and she liked to keep him company. Especially when he'd noticed she'd not made it to the library in a while.

"Yours sounds like a more worthy cause," she commented.

"It will be, eventually," Scully said. "Although I got distracted a little while ago, and started looking up the curse words. They're very inventive." She gave Rosalind an amused look. "How is Jono's work ethic developing?"

"Poorly," she said, amused and her lips quirking slightly upwards. "Each week he has a new excuse."

Scully leaned back and took off her glasses, chewing on one stem. "What's this week's? Although I'd think the books would be excuse enough for most people."

Scarborough Fair started up again, and Scully rolled her eyes.

"I accept no excuse from him," Rosalind replied. "Because if I give him one pass, he'll take another."

Or he'd take it anyway and mostly she just mocked him.

Scully was finding her roommate very entertaining. For once, even if it was in 'professional' guise, Rosalind was just... hanging out.

"Standards have to be kept up," she said gravely. "Or what kind of Library would this Be?"

Cu-cu-katchoo! Mrs. Robinson!

Rosalind was, in actuality. Not that she was going to admit that.

"A poor one," she replied, arching one eyebrow. "Without anyone to provide adequate assistance."

"Well, I intend to test his helpfulness in a little while. I need booktapes of Russian, if I'm going to keep learning it. Something to occupy my mind while I'm running." She arched an eyebrow back at Rosalind. "Unless you'd like to come along on tomorrow's run, early."

"I could," Rosalind conceded, "if you would not rather learn Russian."

"I think I can take one day off." Scully smiled sideways. "Did any of those revolting onions find you yesterday?"

"I'll join you, then. Not for long," Rosalind replied, smiling slightly. "Yourself?"

Some worry that everyone would hear them accusing her of not being a real girl, or a real FbI agent any more, might have lead to swift action. "They tasted excellent with garlic and curry." She smirked at Rosalind. "Is it wrong that I'm willing to eat magic things now? As long as they're not undead magic things?"

"If you cooked them," she said dryly, "then I think they can be classified as dead by now. I see no reason why that should be an issue."

"Good." Or magic, really, after they stopped talking. "Did you sign up for Gun Club on Friday?"

"No," Rosalind replied, with a glance at her. "Triela is not competent enough to run it. I will not support her."

Rosalind, erm, had her own opinions on things.

Scully's eyebrows went up in surprise. "What did you disagree with her about?"

"Her inability to utilize proper and reasonable judgment to remain off the range upon being afflicted with an illness," Rosalind said crisply. "Someone who does not care for their proper safety is a poor choice to teach and supervise others about their weapons."

Scully's eyebrows drew down in consideration, running her encounter with Triela at the gun range when she wasn't feeling well through her mind. "She was that badly off?"

Re: Mod Your Library!

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"She could barely stand," Rosalind replied, "her hands were shaking uncontrollably and she was not in an state to be on a range with a live weapon. Both a danger to herself and to anyone who might have stopped by."

Re: Mod Your Library!

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Scully sat back, unable to disagree with her assessment of Triela in that case, then sighed. "All the more reason to go and keep an eye on things. At least, from my standpoint."

Re: Mod Your Library!

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps," she allowed, "though I doubt she'd have cared for my presence in any case."

Rosalind did... not mince words when she felt someone was being an idiot.

Scully sent her a swift look of understanding, then settled for a mild, "It happens. Have you signed up for anything else?"
