Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

Enjoy!

"Yeah? Are they as cute as me?" he teased.

She glanced at him, to all eyes absolutely disinterested and unimpressed.

"You're cute?"

He was, but she wasn't going to tell him that when he kept treading the line between 'amusing' and 'annoying'.

Jacob was good treading that line. Actually, he practically lived on that line. It was part of his charm. Or something.

He laughed and shrugged his shoulders easily, not looking hurt by the question. "You tell me."

"I really don't think so," she said primly. Almost a hint of a smile at the corners of her lips. "Fishing for compliments isn't appealing."

He laughed at her response. "I know. It's not my usual style, but you had me curious," he shook his head in amusement. "You're cruel."

Something flickered across her face at that.

"You're surprising," she said abruptly.

He was? Because he hadn't seen that comment coming at all.

"How so?"

"None of your business," she said, hiding the fact she was flustered behind the quick response.

"Awwwwww, come on. You can't say one thing and then leave me hanging like that," he tried to give her the closest thing he had to a sad puppy look.

"Are you always this childish?"

So, no, puppy faces didn't work that well on her.

Couldn't find out if he didn't try. "Sure, sure," he nodded. "I could go all serious, but that'd be boring."

"There's nothing wrong with being serious," she objected.

Guess who was a serious person, Jacob?

He grinned. "There's nothing wrong with goofing off."

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's unprofessional."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sixteen," he told her. Though he didn't look it exactly. "I've got nothing to be professional about."

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sixteen," she said, a touch of scorn in her voice. "And I'm professional."

Which wasn't the oddest thing since they were at Fandom. "What are you professional about, Rosalind?"

She wasn't going to fall for an opening that obvious.

"Everything." Duh.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It was an honest question!

"Okay, so I'm guessing it's different at Gaia," he concluded. "Most people here go to school until they're 18. Or longer if they go to college or uni."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
"It depends on the person," she allowed. "Some don't graduate until that age, and others, especially scientists are in school for longer."

Her lips twitched.

"I graduated my school at thirteen." Which was early for Gaia.

He tilted his head, watching her curiously. "You're some kind of genius?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I work hard," she said, which wasn't really an answer.

Yes, she was kind of a genius. At guns. She was just particularly clever at everything else which coupled well with her perfectionist drive.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"And you're professional," he pointed out. "Still doesn't mean you can't goof off."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
She pressed her lips together.

"I've never seen the need."

Or had the time, which was more honest. Too honest for a boy she'd just met.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that got her a wide grin. "That can change."
