The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

"Okay then, we at least know in which direction to look," he chuckled. "The school's got a pretty big library."

For the first time, Rosalind looked quietly interested.

"I'll have to look into that." See what this world had to offer for books.

"Uh huh," he nodded. "Don't forget to come out again and enjoy the sun." She looked like she hadn't been getting enough of that.

"I get out plenty," she informed him haughtily.

"Good then I don't need to come drag you out," he grinned. He was joking. Probably. "It's less embarrassing for everyone."

"I'll let you figure out where I'm rooming then," she informed him, a little sharply. "Since you're fond of challenges."

"That almost sounds like you're already trying to get rid of me," he remarked, sounding more amused than anything else.

He raised an eyebrow. "I'm up for a challenge," he assured her. He could just go look at the sheet with the room assignments. "You like muffins?"

"I'll see," Rosalind said faintly. Fantastic. Well--muffins. How bad could it be?

Rosalind was just failing at connecting the dots from 'being dragged out' to 'muffins'. Yes.

Oh. Jake had long since moved on as she'd given him a different challenge by now.

He held up his hands in peace offering. "Sorry, I thought you might not have those where you're from."

"We have muffins," Rosalind said firmly. They did.

"Good to know," he said easily as if the whole getting her annoyed thing hadn't happened. "It'd be sad growing up without muffins."
