Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

Enjoy!

Which wasn't the oddest thing since they were at Fandom. "What are you professional about, Rosalind?"

She wasn't going to fall for an opening that obvious.

"Everything." Duh.

It was an honest question!

"Okay, so I'm guessing it's different at Gaia," he concluded. "Most people here go to school until they're 18. Or longer if they go to college or uni."

"It depends on the person," she allowed. "Some don't graduate until that age, and others, especially scientists are in school for longer."

Her lips twitched.

"I graduated my school at thirteen." Which was early for Gaia.

He tilted his head, watching her curiously. "You're some kind of genius?"

"I work hard," she said, which wasn't really an answer.

Yes, she was kind of a genius. At guns. She was just particularly clever at everything else which coupled well with her perfectionist drive.

"And you're professional," he pointed out. "Still doesn't mean you can't goof off."

She pressed her lips together.

"I've never seen the need."

Or had the time, which was more honest. Too honest for a boy she'd just met.

Oh, that got her a wide grin. "That can change."

Because that wasn't ominous at all.

She eyed him coolly, blue-green eyes torn between exasperation and amusement. "I happen to like who I am."

You know. Just so he knew that.

"I never implied I thought you needed to change," he said. "Just... new experiences are fun."

Fun. When was the last time she'd done something fun?

"I don't have that much time," she protested.

... Except now, now she might.

He rolled his eyes. "Because your class schedule is going to be so busy," he guessed.

"I could take extra courses," she retorted. "Be--busy with online work."

Training!

Jacob sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "Well, if you ever change your mind..."

She bit her lip. He had seemed... mostly tolerable.

"I could--try?" So very dubiously. "A little?"

A tiny amount.

"I've just never d--had the time."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Tolerable? Hey, that was a step up or something.

He smiled at her. "No one said you've got to start big. Eat chocolate or ice cream. Watch a movie. Read a book if you enjoy that sort of thing. Pull a prank. Mock the newbies and break their brains. You might have to wait until September for that."

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't want to," she said, frowning. "That doesn't sound fun at all."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"What? All of it?" he frowned. "Or just the brain breaking? It's kind of inevitable."

"Pranks and brain breaking," she said, a bit stiffly. "I enjoy reading."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay then, we at least know in which direction to look," he chuckled. "The school's got a pretty big library."

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
For the first time, Rosalind looked quietly interested.

"I'll have to look into that." See what this world had to offer for books.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh," he nodded. "Don't forget to come out again and enjoy the sun." She looked like she hadn't been getting enough of that.

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I get out plenty," she informed him haughtily.

... Just not in the last two and a half months.

"Good then I don't need to come drag you out," he grinned. He was joking. Probably. "It's less embarrassing for everyone."
