Ethics [Thursday, September 3, 1st period]

Anakin walked into his classroom precisely on time and gave the students assembled there an appraising glance as the door clicked shut behind him. If you were late, you weren't getting in. "I'm Master Skywalker," he said in a voice that was intended to carry, "this is Ethics, and we're going to skip the introductions--I'll figure out who you are--and move straight to our first discussion."

He paced around the room, cloak flaring out behind him, as he handed out the syllabus. "Today's topic," he said, pointing to the top of the page. "Self sacrifice: knowing the difference between saving people and being a pretentious twit."

"Any time I ask a a group of people what they would do to save someone they love, they all blither on about how they would set the world on fire, lie, cheat, steal, kill, die, et cetera, et cetera. I've been at this school too long to believe that half of you haven't already been put into this situation and I'm in no mood to hear adolescent ramblings about how wonderful you were or might hypothetically be. Instead I want you to give me a concrete example of a time you admitted to yourself that a problem cannot be solved, and that to sacrificing yourself wasn't a statement, but merely pointless?" His gaze swept the room. "How long does it take for you to realize you can't fix everything by yourself?"

He would hear the replies and choose his TAs from there.

This was the class Raven had been looking forward to the most. She paid close attention like a good fangirl.

She might have still had a wee bit of a headache (and wounded pride) from Tahiri knocking her on her ass last night with her telekinesis.

Maron had been interested in the class but as he went on she started feeling distinctly uncomfortable with the subject for today.

Fussing with her pen, she forced herself to pay attention.

Bobby listened to the lecture and frowned a bit. Because he'd totally done that whole "I'll gladly sacrifice myself if it means defeating you!" thing more than once. Obviously, it hadn't been necessary. But, you know, the intent had been there!

Karla had a lot on her mind, but that didn't stop her from paying very close attention to what Professor Skywalker had to say. And taking diligent notes. Between him and Lady Ghanima, Karla knew better than to mess around.

Rose wasn't sure if she was finding it funny or not that Kirova apparently thought she needed an Ethics class, but she was pretty sure if she decided it was funny, that wouldn't be something she was showing in Professor Skywalker's class.

Professor Skywalker kind of made Francine want to hide under her desk and/or apologize profusely even though she hadn't done anything wrong that she knew of. Today. He was that kind of scary.

He'd been a lot more amusing when he thought he was a little girl with a dog, Katchoo decided. What the hell was with all this dramatic cloak and grand entrance crap anyway?

She had a notebook out, but she wasn't taking notes, and her expression was distinctly skeptical.

Azula was a little impressed with his theatricality. He had the same air about him when he appeared to guide them to the shuttle. It must be of some use whenever he tried to intimidate an opponent but mostly, Azula wanted to gauge the man the Principal wanted her to meet.

Once Jonas had gotten past the fact that the professor was rather intimidating, he focused on the question that had been raised. Thankfully, he understood the words and the context so he was able to slowly form what he hoped was a suitable answer.

That didn't stop him from scrawling down several notes in almost incomprehensible (to anyone but him) shorthand so he could read them more carefully later.

Angela continued to like this... bus driver/teacher. He was no-nonsense. Even if she had no idea what he was talking about. Sacrifice?

Tara had heard Master Skywalker was a good teacher. No one had ever mentioned he was so, um, scary.

Still, she was interested in the subject matter, so she took decent notes as she thought about her answer to the question.

Emma wasn't quite sure how she'd landed herself in an ethics class, and she wasn't sure if she should be disgruntled or amused at the teacher's attitude regarding the whole thing.

Oh well, at least the sheer terror he was inspiring in some of her classmates was amusing.

Parker wasn't exactly sure she got the whole self sacrifice thing. It was only logical to make sure you got yourself out of the situation along with whatever your target was. Anything else was just sloppy planning.

The only person who was worse at a party was Vincent. Which might explain why Yuffie thought Professor Anakin was pretty damn cool.

Maybe it was the robe/cloak thing they had going on.

Hayley thought for a second. She wasn't her usual, smiling, cheerful self when she spoke "When they drowned Bianca," she said. "I mean, I was already practically arrested at the time, so all I coulda done was dive in after her, but it wouldn't have done no good."

Azula remained behind after class. She stood in front of Anakin with crossed arms. She seemed amused.

The theatricality, the short temper he reminded her of a certain brother.

"Principal Winchester told me to speak with you."
