Arts & Crafts [Period 1, 5-18]
Steve was ready and waiting for the students when they arrived for the workshop. "Okay, so, this is Arts & Crafts, it's summer camp, it's traditional, so today we're going to do one of those crafts that's traditional at summer camps even in places other than Fandom, since gremlins in jars are pretty much Fandom-specific. I hope none of you have had any unfortunate encounters with the actual gremlins since last week, and likewise claim no responsibility for last week's rain of glitter. That being said, let's move right along to dreamcatchers. The idea behind dreamcatchers is that if you hang them over your bed, the webbing will catch nightmares but let good dreams through. I'm not sure if they work, but it's a nice idea, and I'm sure some of us could do with a few less nightmares." God knew he could. "So, the instructions are on your tables, along with the materials. We have several different colors of lacing, beads, and feathers. Have fun with it."

Re: Craft/Chatter
"I thought it would be fun," he replied, "to just close my eyes and go with whatever four classes my finger landed on. Mostly, I did pretty good. This class will probably be fun, too. Once I stop tying myself into knots, anyhow."
He grinned sheepishly, and then held out the hand that wasn't holding the scissors toward her, offering a handshake.
"I'm Zack!"
Re: Craft/Chatter
"If nothing else, you'll have random artwork to put places," she said, shaking his hand. "It's Ino. What other classes did you get by random choice?"
Re: Craft/Chatter
She'd just been put on the list of 'omg best friend forever.' Right along with every other person that Zack had ever met. Ever.
"Well, I'm in this class, and I'm in the Television class on Fridays, and my other class today was that Terrain one? Aaaaand then tomorrow I have sexualanthropology."
He was blushing a little as that last one tapered off into a mumble, yes.
Re: Craft/Chatter
"It could be worse," she told him practically. "You could be having straight out sex ed. That, at least, sounds more science~y." Ino might not really know what anthropology meant. Ino figured she was okay with that.
Science~y covered it.
"How're you finding Fandom?" she asked, poking through her beads for another purple one. "A lot different from Midgar?"
Re: Craft/Chatter
"Oh, yeah! A whole lot different from Midgar. Midgar is all tall buildings and traffic and it's kinda dark all of the time, you know? And there's nothing really green there. Uh. Except for the sky. Hey, you remembered what it's called!"
Zack was impressed!
Re: Craft/Chatter
Ino considered her next move, figuring that being super stealthy was... probably wasted on this guy. "I remember you saying 'bout being from Gongaga too," and deliberately added, "SOLDIER boy."
And waited for him to confirm it.
Re: Craft/Chatter
"That's right! Gongaga's my hometown, before I ever went to Midgar. And I am in SOLDIER. I'm a 2nd Class, actually. What does your friend do in Midgar? Maybe I know him?"
If Zack seemed a little giddy, it was because Ino was the first person to speak about SOLDIER as a proper noun without him having to explain that it was the name of that particular branch of the military, and that was awesome. A lot.
Re: Craft/Chatter
Truth and not-truth neatly mixed and layered. "I doubt you'd know him--you said you hadn't been in Midgar that long, right? And he's been here, so..."
Re: Craft/Chatter
Oh, Zack had no idea.
Re: Craft/Chatter
She shrugged, grinning. "As if that'd stop me from offering advice." Sixteen neon pink notebooks attested to that. "Aren't you a bit young for 2nd Class? You must be badass."
The classes were going on Ino's list of things to ask about. But flattery never ever hurt things.
Re: Craft/Chatter
"Well, I'm not bad," Zack stated, puffing his chest up a little. It would have been more impressive if he wasn't holding a pair of children's scissors, attempting to cut tangles of string off of a glove. "SOLDIER recruits all kinds of people, so I'm not really that young. And anyhow, it's the SOLDIERs 1st Class who are the real heroes. I'll make it there someday, just wait and see!"
Re: Craft/Chatter
"I'm sure you will," she said confidently. "Though, I have to ask, does this mean being here is training or something?"
Re: Craft/Chatter
Re: Craft/Chatter
...go to high school?
"Learn from a greater variety of educational styles or something?"
Re: Craft/Chatter
Time to free the other.
"I like this place so far. And people seem to think it's kinda weird that I'm wearing armor around all of the time. Should I maybe just get a pair of jeans and lose the pauldrons, or something?"
They were very practical, if he was trying not to get his arms hacked off. But perhaps not so much in arts and crafts class.
Re: Craft/Chatter
"You're such a dork, honestly! And I wouldn't call it weird," she said, because Ino actually wouldn't, "though I guess if you're not used to military types it might be? But, yeah, you'd probably be better off in jeans and a shirt while just keeping the armour 'round in your room 'cause sometimes you probably will need it."
Re: Craft/Chatter
Which he could totally do, sure.
Re: Craft/Chatter
And the school didn't know about them. Details. Besides, they were playing cards. No way could the school take every thing ever that was card-shaped away from her for long.
"But I guess that's good training too? Expect the unexpected."
Re: Craft/Chatter
Of course right!
"It kinda makes you wonder what they do with the kids who are trained well enough in physical combat that their hands are a weapon," Zack mused, half-joking. "They can't really confiscate those at the door, can they?"
Re: Craft/Chatter
Ino's view was a bit warped considering pointy objects of pain were encouraged in the Academy, and that was for kids as young as five. So.
Re: Craft/Chatter
And there was probably far more than that, but Zack really didn't train in too many different forms of combat, so he was going to just list what he was familiar with, here.
Re: Craft/Chatter
Re: Craft/Chatter
It was very handy!
And it was already plugged into Zack's sword.
