Arts & Crafts [Period 1, 5-18]

Steve was ready and waiting for the students when they arrived for the workshop. "Okay, so, this is Arts & Crafts, it's summer camp, it's traditional, so today we're going to do one of those crafts that's traditional at summer camps even in places other than Fandom, since gremlins in jars are pretty much Fandom-specific. I hope none of you have had any unfortunate encounters with the actual gremlins since last week, and likewise claim no responsibility for last week's rain of glitter. That being said, let's move right along to dreamcatchers. The idea behind dreamcatchers is that if you hang them over your bed, the webbing will catch nightmares but let good dreams through. I'm not sure if they work, but it's a nice idea, and I'm sure some of us could do with a few less nightmares." God knew he could. "So, the instructions are on your tables, along with the materials. We have several different colors of lacing, beads, and feathers. Have fun with it."

Like a bad dream.

Pay attention, doodle, whatevs.

Make dreamcatchers and talk amongst yourselves while you work. If you want to make extras for distribution to the drama-prone, you may certainly do so.

He seemed to be struggling with his dreamcatcher. This type of crafty, he was not.

Feathers were cool, and beads were fun, and Zack was...

Tying his fingers in knots with the thread. This wasn't going as well as he'd hoped it might. But once again, he was putting forth an admirable effort, and that was what counted.

Yamanaka Ino

Ino was just going to giggle a bit as she covertly watched him and his thread-issues.

Serious thread issues. Zack found himself peeling off his gloves and sighing, picking up a piece of the thread, only to have one glove, a length of tangled string, and then the other glove lift up off the table after it.

"This isn't going so well," he noted, glancing sideways at the source of the giggle he'd heard.

The knots were easy, though the fact that it was a circle made it harder, and Ino was pretending the feathers didn't exist.

It wasn't her fault that they were a pain, okay? Besides, the beads were prettier. She was sticking to that story.

Claudia Kishi ~~in a nightmare of an outfit, mwahaha~~

Claudia was so glad she'd worn feathers in her hair today. She'd coordinated with the art project! How awesome!

"You forgot the feathers," Claudia pointed out helpfully.

"It's not forgetting if you're leaving them out on purpose," she said, grinning a bit. "I like the beads."

They got mangled less easily.

Ino laughed, since he was looking at her. "Not that great at thread?" she teased.

"I'm not usually the arts-and-crafts sort," Zack laughed, shrugging a little as his objective went from trying to make a dreamcatcher right on over to attempting to free his gloves. "There's probably a trick to it that I'm not seeing, here."

"Don't look at me," she said, holding up her hands. "I can do the knots, but I'm so not good at art stuff."

Unless it had to do with flower arranging, but that was different.

"But you need the feathers to tickle the dreams into better moods or something," Claudia replied.

"My dreams aren't going to listen to feathers," Ino answered. "And I think it's easier to actually deal with the dreams than pin your hopes on a circle with feathers and beads on it."

"But the circle is pretty!" Claudia replied. "I'm totally making earrings, too."

"To catch bad thoughts while you're awake?" Ino asked, intrigued. "That does sound interesting."

"And to look cute!" Claudia said. And really, that was her first priority.

Ino eyed her. "I suppose," she conceded, "though looking cute ought to be something that happens naturally, don't you think?"

"It takes hours for me to look this cute," Claudia said, eyes wide. "There's nothing natural about it."

Noooooo kidding.
