Steve looked horribly embarrassed as he started class today. "I would just like to begin by apologizing to anyone I insulted, in any form, over the weekend. I was, like many of you, not myself, but that doesn't make some of the things I said to people any less reprehensible." He didn't think he was ever going to come to terms with the memory of that person's anger and prejudice. And that had been him. God. "Now. Moving along to our class topic. Last week we talked about pregnancy, this week you're going to participate in a practical exercise. I have here nine five pound bags of flour, one for every two of you, because yes, you have been randomly divided into couples. For the next week, these are your babies. You will carry them everywhere. You can name and decorate them if you like, but do not damage them. I expect the bags returned intact next week. As to how I will know..." Steve picked up one bag and turned the bottom to face the class, revealing his signature. "I'm told these would sell for a pretty penny on eBay in certain realities. Don't even think about it, Mr. Madrox. When I call your names, you can come up and get your 'baby,' and then spend the rest of the period getting acquainted with your new partner in parenting."

He flashed Eowyn a weak grin and hoped she wasn't one of the people he'd been cheerfully idiotic to, that weekend.

"Hi."

"Hello," she said, giving him a small smile in return. As much as she might have wanted to, she did not stare at his hair to decide if it was real, wanting to maintain some decorum after the weekend.

"So. Any experience raising a five pound bag of flour?"

That managed to make Éowyn laugh. "None so far," she said. "I have, however, been around quite a few actual children."

"Those might be easier. What do you feed a bag of flour? Or should we just stick it in a pantry with a note reading 'NOT FOR BAKING'?"

"I think placing it elsewhere for the week is against the rules," Éowyn said. "Perhaps if we drew a face onto it, people would realize the bag is not to be harmed."

Priestly wasn't so sure that people here were typically that . . . subtle? Abstract?

"I guess we're best off just keeping it with us, huh."

"Quite possibly, yes," she agreed. "At least we do not have to be concerned with it making noise. That should make things much easier." Pausing for a moment, she looked to the bag. "Do we want to name it?"

"Surrrre. Is it a boy bag or a girl bag?"

"A boy bag, I think. Shall we give him your name?"

Priestly shook his head sharply. "Hell no." He wouldn't wish that even on a bag of flour. "Should go with something simple. Like Steve."

"Steve?" Éowyn said, letting herself get used to the name. "That does sound appropriate. A simple name for a simple bag of flour."

"Totally. So, uh. I guess we should figure out who's getting the little guy first, huh?"

"I have no other classes or activities today," Éowyn said. "I can take him first, or do whatever you find easier."

"That could work ~~since Priestly didn't have it in the common room yesterday.~~ Maybe we can switch off days or something?"

"I think that would be a lovely arrangement," Éowyn said.

"Sweet. So I'll come get it -- him -- uh. Tomorrow morning?"

"I assure you, he will still be safe and whole when you arrive," Éowyn promised, laughing.

"Good to know." Priestly grinned. "Man, I feel like I should be paying child support or something."
