Ethics [Tuesday, February 3, 2nd period]

When the Ethics class arrived in the Danger Shop, they stepped into an entirely different world.

An incredibly dry, hot one. That smelled really bad.

Anakin waved his hand around the room. "Welcome to the embodiment of gluttony," he said, "the palace of a Hutt."

He concentrated on the controls on the far side of the room, and the simulation sprung to life: dozens of beings drinking, eating, and dancing, with all activity centered around a vile slug of a beast laying on the raised dais at the front of the room.

In a place of honor on the wall was a man, face twisted in a silent scream but his features obscured beyond recognition, encased in silver. Anakin ignored it as he walked past to point at the creature on the dais. "That," he said, nose wrinkling in disgust, "is a Hutt. This particular version was named Jabba, one of the most powerful crime lords in the galaxy." A grim smile turned the corners of his mouth up. "At least until he met my children."

He shook his head. "That is neither here nor there. Today is an interactive experience for you, class. Take a good hard look around. See the effects that gluttony can have."

His eyes went flat. "Touch any of the dancing girls and you'll regret it. That's a promise."

He's here to field all questions from "Ewww, why's that guy eating things that are still alive?" to "Where does the trapdoor lead to? We've lost a student" to "WTF? There's a guy on the wall!"

Or if you really want to know what his kids did to Jabba. He's kinda dying to share.

"Professor Skywalker?" Leto said as he approached him after class. "I met your grandson a few days ago."

Anakin smiled. "Did you?"

"Yes, and he demonstrated the use of a lightsabre," Leto continued. "It made me curious. Your Jedi order seem to have developed an interesting fighting style. Is it accompanied by a philosophy of some kind?"

He shut his mouth, eyes widening a little. He had certainly not mean to say that much.

"The Order is accompanied by ten thousand generations of philosophy," Anakin said, rolling his eyes, "much of it contradicting itself."

"Contradiction isn't inherently bad," Leto replied. "But I assume this makes it difficult to summarise the basic principles. I would be interested to know more though, and perhaps compare to the different traditions from my own universe."

This probably didn't sound too strange, but Leto wasn't comfortable being this talkative.

Anakin picked up on the discomfort. "Are you all right? Despite appearances, I do actually care about my students. Most of them. The ones that aren't annoying."

Leto gave Anakin a rather surprised look. "I keep speaking my mind far more easily than usual today," he said. "It unnerves me. I usually express my rather limitless curiosity in a more subtle manner."

"I don't tend to pick up on subtle," Anakin said, then frowned. "This seems to be contagious, the speaking your mind thing."

"Yes, it affected most of the people in the Salle this morning," Leto informed him with some embarrassment. "But at least I was the best fighter in the room."

Anakin grinned. "It's always reassuring to be able to fight your way out of whatever problem your mouth gets you into. I spent most of my life doing that. I'm a horrible diplomat."

"I only fight if necessary, but according to my stepmother my diplomatic skills need to be improved if I am to be a good emperor," Leto told him, now looking quite uneasy.

"Good morning, professor!" Toby greeted Anakin happily. "I know I'm not in this class but I wanted to interview you for my journalism class!"

"I am enormously fascinating," Anakin agreed before frowning. He hadn't intended to say that.

"You really are," Toby sighed, turning on his wee recording device and prepping his notebook. "So, let's start with the really deep questions. What's your haircare regimen?"

"I start with an organic shampoo," Anakin said, "and then a conditioner, a shine booster and a hair and scalp masque once a week."

He'd meant to say "I wash it."

"Now, do you mix brands or use a complete system?" Toby asked, taking furious notes.

"I've found that a complete system leads to a lot of build up a lot faster," Anakin counseled wisely. "So I switch products every few months. I have more shampoos than Rory."

Toby nodded, having a similar rotation in place. "And Rory is your wife. How does she cope with you being so attractive?"

"Oh, she's much better looking than I am," Anakin said easily. "She's heart-stoppingly gorgeous. Frankly, I'm not sure what she sees in me."

"So she copes by being hotter, good call," Toby said, considering calling her for confirmation. "Now, what sort of lotion do you use?"

Toby checked his notes. "After a shower and during sex." He didn't think he'd meant to say that last part. Huh.

Anakin didn't flail. It was undignified.

...it just looked a lot like flailing. "After a shower, I use something that doesn't have a scent because sometimes I accidentally use Rory's soap and end up smelling like a cookie."

Trying to keep his mouth closed. Trying soooo hard. "And we've never really needed to slick anything up artificially oh kriffing hells what I am saying?"
