Management Theory [Tuesday, January 20, 4th period]

After the class was assembled in their oh-so-stylish labcoats and hats, Yzma raised her hands grandly. "Today," she announced, "we will work on speeches! A good manager must be able to inspire others with their words and dramatic gestures. Borrowing from great speeches--" by which she meant stealing outright, "inspire your fellow classmates!"

She gestured to Toby to hand out numbered placards. "As each student gives their speech, you shall judge them!" she declared gleefully, then pointed one incredibly long fingernail towards a student. "You! Begin!"

He'd meant to pull the one lever, but he'd actually snagged the--

...that's it, he was making calamari for lunch at the Cafe this week.

By the third week, Arthur had given up all hope.

When he emerged on the other side, dripping wet and his hand still aching from strangling the beast, he had to admit he was in something more of a chipper mood.

Or at least an irritated one of a different stripe.

Hinata was actually pleased this week--she'd managed to get the right lever this time, and missed having to get soaked.

The outfit could be dealt with.

Wendy pulled the lever.

A shark...with arms. Of course.

Sooner or later, someone was going to pay for this.

Inara hadn't been paying attention when she pulled the lever this week, and as a consequence, she was dripping and unhappy as she pulled the goggles off her head and smacked them on the desk.

At least the huge aquatic sea creature (http://www.oceanlight.com/spotlight.php?img=2452) hadn't seemed interested in attacking or poisoning her.

Jaina would have complained about the whole needing to fight off a giant octopus thing, but really, it was sort of cathartic. So she'd just bitch about the outfit.

Turtle took a deep breath before choosing her lever. She was standing at two successes; statistics showed that there was probably a wrong level choice coming at her soon. She closed her eyes, grabbed one and pulled...

...and wound up being correct again! Victory!

For another week, at least...

Toby didn't understand why people complained. He looked freaking fantastic in his lab gear. It helped that he didn't realize there was a wrong lever.

Agnes pulled the correct lever with confidence this week... Only to find that, somehow, the levers had been swapped.

One wet Agnes and a thoroughly scolded giant octopus later, she arrived in the laboratory.

Rikku had picked the right lever again this time! ... By which she meant, she found the one with the creature to fight against. After class, she was totally going to find a book and look it up. That thing was weird looking.

Aaaaaaand on to the rollercoaster! This class was awesome.

Romeo pulled the right lever and emerged dry, even if his head was spinning a little from the roller coaster.

He made a mental note not to eat nachos before class.

Jenny arrived dripping wet and dragging a slightly-smoking octopus as big as she was by one tentacle. "Who wants calamari?!"

A speech?!

What was it about class this week, making him want to curl up into a ball and never leave his room ever again?

Re: Listen to the lecture!

Terrific.

Speeches.

It wasn't that Arthur was bad at them. Rather he found them unimaginably dull, and so he could be caught searching the room desperately for a drink of some kind as they went on.

While she didn't mean to, Jaina listened to the lecture while making a face. She wasn't one for speeches. In fact, aside from the "Do what I say or you're going to get really really killed" ones, she didn't make them at all. So this should be interesting.

Re: Listen to the lecture!

[identity profile] always-damp.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome! Toby was already planning what he would say.

Re: Listen to the lecture!

[identity profile] finding-x-dream.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Speech. Fine. She could do a speech.

So long as someone ELSE wrote it.

Re: Speechify!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
He considered what he should say and unfortunately, he could only think of one speech that he'd ever heard.

And the speaker wasn't exactly the most inspirational sort of creature one could meet.

"Courage! (http://www.americanrhetoric.com/MovieSpeeches/moviespeechthewizardofozcourage.html)" he thundered, trying to make the whole thing sound less ridiculous than he knew it would. Of course, he'd have better luck if he wasn't quoting Brrr of all Lions.

"I ask you: What makes a King out of a slave? Courage.

"What makes the flag on the mast to wave? Courage.

"What makes the Elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist or the dusky dusk?

"What makes the Muskrat guard his musk? Courage.

"What makes the Sphinx the 7th Wonder? Courage.

"What makes the dawn come up like THUNDER?! Courage.

"What makes the Hottentot so hot?

"What puts the "ape" in ape-ricot?

"COURAGE," he repeated, feeling like an absolute idiot, but an enthusiastic idiot. "Courage, my friends!"

[*dies and is dead of laughing*]
