Library [Thursday, January 15, 2009]

Claudia's wardrobe, always...creative...was getting even more so as important pieces (like all of her shirts) disappeared.

Today she was wearing a pink bustier under a white button-up cardigan sweater, black stirrup leggings and bright blue cowboy boots with flowers tooled into the sides of them. Her hair was pulled up into a complicated bun, dangly butterfly earrings hung from her ears, and her old friend the snake bracelet was around her left wrist. On anyone else it would look like a serious cry for laundry day. On Claudia, it looked great.

And she'd probably wear it again even if her shirts came back.

She was sitting down and flipping through Entertainment Weekly, offering unsolicited advice to the stars for their choices of dresses for the Golden Globes.

Harper had been saving her racing outfit for a special occasion. She hadn't expected it to be a laundry issue. Either way, she headed over the library before class wearing a red vinyl dress with checkered flags, a track running down her torso (with a little tiny race car glued into place), and a personalized license plate with "HARPER" on it.

"Oh, thank you," said Harper with a big grin. "I like your boots. They're very pretty."

"I just need to find the Shakespeare section," said Harper. "I'm going to be doing costumes for the play, so I should probably read the play first. It's something like Harry V."

"Yeah, but I think this one was a king. Guess he managed to get his older brother out of the way," said Harper. "He wasn't as cute in the movie, though."

"Either that, or Prince William wasn't in that story," suggested Harper.

After his class, Lee decided to make a stop in the library to check out the girl who'd said hell to him on Sunday. He didn't have anything else to do. It wasn't like he could do laundry.

He was down to one pair of pants and the short sleeved t-shirt he was wearing. He just had to ignore the cold.

He pushed opened the door, got in out of the cold and wondered when the last time was when he was in the library that wasn't his day or Adah's.

"Hi, you're Claudia, right?" He was just guessing. Maybe her name was Flipertina or something. He had no idea. "I'm Lee. You said hi to me on the radio so I thought I'd stop in."

"Yeah, I don't know what that was about," he said and frowned. "I got into the library and just got the urge to sing. It didn't happen to you?"

"Yeah, I wouldn't either," he said dryly. "How's the library treating you so far? No books come alive and talked to you yet?"

"Weird frog thing?" Lee repeated. "Was it a student who turned into a frog? That sometimes happens."
