Claudia's wardrobe, always...creative...was getting even more so as important pieces (like all of her shirts) disappeared.

Today she was wearing a pink bustier under a white button-up cardigan sweater, black stirrup leggings and bright blue cowboy boots with flowers tooled into the sides of them. Her hair was pulled up into a complicated bun, dangly butterfly earrings hung from her ears, and her old friend the snake bracelet was around her left wrist. On anyone else it would look like a serious cry for laundry day. On Claudia, it looked great.

And she'd probably wear it again even if her shirts came back.

She was sitting down and flipping through Entertainment Weekly, offering unsolicited advice to the stars for their choices of dresses for the Golden Globes.

"No, but there was a weird frog in a common room," Claudia said, still looking wigged out.

"Weird frog thing?" Lee repeated. "Was it a student who turned into a frog? That sometimes happens."

"He was fuzzy and talked," Claudia replied.

"Oh, you met that frog," Lee said, nodding now that he understood. "Yeah, guess talking animals aren't familiar. Maybe you'll change your tune after you turn into your first animal. I could see you as a...bumblebee."

"I'm from Connecticut," Claudia said. "The only animals that talked were in cartoon movies for little kids."

She was just going to ignore the idea that she could turn into an animal.

"I'm from Caprica--another planet--," he supplied helpfully, "and we didn't have talking animals either. It took some adjusting to but I managed. I bet you will too."

"My roommate says he's from a different planet, too," Claudia said, still not comfortable about saying that out loud. "This place is very, very odd."

"And you've only been here a few weeks," he said. "You ain't really seen odd yet. Ask someone about Special Collections sometime."

Claudia let out a nervous laugh. "That's not the most reassuring thing I've ever heard," she said. "What's in there?"

"Books and...other things," Lee said. "I think people might live in there."

"In there?" Claudia repeated. "But you can't do that. The police take you away if you are living in public property."

"I didn't do that," he said quickly. "But, not here they won't. Special Collections is...weird. There's people and it's kind of haunted and I think the former headmaster's in jail in there."

Claudia's jaw dropped. "UM. My mom's library's not like that. AT ALL."

"I'd be worried if anyplace you've ever been is like this one," Lee laughed. "You're not getting used to it?"

"I'm trying, but it's hard," she said. "My town's idea of diversity was us and the black family down the street."

"Ah." Yeah, Lee was just happy she wasn't hiding under a table. "Where are you from?"

"Little town called Stoneybrook," she replied. "We didn't even have a mall."

"Caprica didn't have a mall either," he said. "I've never heard of Stoneybrook. Is that in like Iowa?"

"Connecticut," Claudia said. "A few states up from here."

"Oh, you that before," Lee said and smacked his head. "Frak, getting old. You like it here?"

"The island has a karaoke bar and I don't have to take gym," she said. "It's definitely better than home. How long have you been here?"

"Going on two years," he said. "I graduate in May. Dunno if I'm going back home or staying here yet."

Yes, he did. He'd made up his mind ages ago.

"What would you do at home?" she asked, clearly teasing. "Fly spaceships?"

"Uh, yeah actually," he said. "I'd probably join Caprica's military, fly Vipers and stuff in space."

"You fly snakes?"
