Sam was glad to be back in the library, even if he was going to have to get used to being there on Thursdays. Wanting to make a good impression on the new librarian, he got to the library early to get everything set up long before he opened the doors to everyone else.

Dean came in with food and took his usual seat. "So that Jess kid is a total ass."

"Did you run into him?" Sam asked. "Tell me you got to throw him in some kind of body of water, because that was kind of cathartic."

"Ran into him in the CR last night," Dean said. "No bodies of water were handy unfortunately."

"You should have stuck his head in the sink or something," Sam said. "Peter shouldn't have a double who makes him look bad."

"Yeah. somehow this Jess kid's got Peter's looks but Nathan's personality."

"Nathan isn't that bad," Sam said. "At least, not to people who aren't you."

"He's the only person I've got into a fist fight with here," Dean pointed out. He paused. "Though that might be a list that is expanding soon."

"Planning on punching Jess?" Sam asked.

"I haven't ruled it out," Dean said. "And then there's Hannibal - the one Alice's dating?"

"The one you don't like because he's like you," Sam said. "You know, I think that was Nathan's problem too."

"Well no, I don't like him because when I told him he better not hurt Alice -- and that she was kinda fragile -- he pretty much blew me off. Like Alice isn't worth taking the shovel speech."

"Maybe he figured you weren't worth listening to because you're not really her brother," Sam replied.

"I'm the closest she's got," Dean pointed out. "And really the proper reaction if he really cares for her is to be glad she's got someone looking out for her, and to say he would do the same. Not go on about how he doesn't get naked until the fourth date."

Sam couldn't help but snicker. "Maybe Alice likes him? Maybe she can get rid of him on her own if she doesn't."

"Maybe," Dean said, "but Sammy, I'm not kidding when I say she's kinda fragile. She's lost her entire family in a fire and that really messed her up. She's just starting to really open up and I don't want some ass to knock her back down again."

Sam got a little more serious when he could tell that Dean was being serious too. "Have you tried talking to her about this?" he asked.

"I talked to her when I first heard she was dating him, but that was before he acted like an ass," Dean said. "I'm going to have to talk to her again."

"My advice would be to not mention that you think he's an ass until you absolutely have to," Sam said. "Or things might not start off well."

"Dude, please," Dean said, sounding offended. "I do have some tact."

"Yeah, I'm sure you were full of tact when you gave Hannibal the shovel speech."

"That's a completely different situation. You get tact when you've earned tact."

"And of course Hannibal doesn't deserve any of that," Sam replied.

"Dude, trust me on this. He's taking Alice and the situation far too lightly."

Sam smirked. "And you understand light since you've acted that way with girls too," he said, more of a statement than a question.

"I'm always upfront about what I'm offering," Dean said. "I'm not sure if Hannibal is."
