Escape Artistry: Week 4, Period 3 (Thurs. 07/31)

When students entered the Danger Shop, they were again faced with a watery situation that looked an awful lot like their current Australian port. Everyone had been handwavily instructed to wear swimming gear, and if they failed to remember, the room would provide it for them and they could handwavily change. Once everyone was appropriately dressed, they were given handouts, ushered onto the waiting boat, and taken quickly out to sea.

"Like you saw from the handout, today you're escaping from sharks," Ronon said. "Remember to only engage the shark if it attacks you first. If you play dead, it's less likely to attack than if you flail in terror." He looked at various students to be sure they were paying close attention to these instructions. "Any questions before you make your escape?"

Johnny was going to try and stay near other students, but seriously? A shark even acted like it was going to attack, it would be roasted shark for everyone. Mm.

Johnny kind of acted dead. Hard to do when one was treading water and keeping a keen eye on the sharks. He didn't want to lose any body parts thank you very much.

Gwynn? She knew about Johnny's fire. Guess who she was staying close to? Eve would be so proud.

Johnny noticed her and grinned. "Hey, Gwynn. You all right?"

Gwynn nodded. "I've never seen any animals like this before, but figured if there was an attack, I should stay near you as I do not have my weapons." She smiled. "Eve said I could trust you."

Swimming was not something Helen had done much of, but she could keep herself afloat without too much flailing. She watched the sharks carefully, focusing her attention to be ready to tell them to stay away if they got too close. She'd never tried to control a shark, but she figured it was worth a try.

"Go away," she told it firmly, putting the force of her will behind the words. "You may not harm me."

Gwen treaded water, trying not to splash too much or start humming the Mandibles theme.

She never thought she'd be missing the blowfish.

Gwen did not shriek, much as she might have wanted to. She did go a lot stiller and wish for a gun though.

Sokka did his best to stay between the sharks and the less-competent fighters in the class. If he was going to go down -- and, let's face it, they were SHARKS, so he didn't have much hope -- then he might as well go down protecting people.

No moving contrasting colors here! Just a guy treading water while wearing a dark blue tunic with white trim.

...Oh, wait.

Katara wasn't sure if she was supposed to bend or not. So she did and figured the teacher would tell her if she wasn't allowed to. She created an ice flow under her feet and pushed up to balance on the water, looking around for others who might need an ice flow of their own.

Dick - who had, amazingly, been given pointers on shark fighting during some of his training with Bruce (when you're likely to be kidnapped by the Joker at some point, you get some extra-special lessons) - decided that his hero complex could take a break. All things being fair and a simulation being a simulation, he was just going to calmly and gently swim back towards the edge of the water while everyone else was wading.

After all, this was Escape Artistry, not Waiting Around to be Shark Food Artistry.

If a shark came too close to Michael, it was going to be little shark bits.

Friday tried to tread water and keep his head above the surface. "I shouldn't have had that big breakfast," he muttered to himself, more than a little concerned about swimming with sharks. Just because it wasn't real didn't mean something wouldn't go wrong.

He swam while trying to move as little as possible.

Hmmm. The handouts stressed watching for the shark. Way easier to see what was going on if you were under the surface.

Rikku took a deep breath -- and for her, that was pretty deep -- and kicked her way down, levelling out where she had a clear view of what was going on. Holding eye contact with any of the sharks who glanced her way, just in case she could stare them down.

If nothing happened in ten minutes or so, she'd bob up, get another breath, and re-evaluate.
