Escape Artistry: Week 4, Period 3 (Thurs. 07/31)

When students entered the Danger Shop, they were again faced with a watery situation that looked an awful lot like their current Australian port. Everyone had been handwavily instructed to wear swimming gear, and if they failed to remember, the room would provide it for them and they could handwavily change. Once everyone was appropriately dressed, they were given handouts, ushered onto the waiting boat, and taken quickly out to sea.

"Like you saw from the handout, today you're escaping from sharks," Ronon said. "Remember to only engage the shark if it attacks you first. If you play dead, it's less likely to attack than if you flail in terror." He looked at various students to be sure they were paying close attention to these instructions. "Any questions before you make your escape?"

Johnny moved in towards her and said, "Arms around my neck, lay along my back all right?" When she was behind him, arms around him, he started forward. "Just hold to me, okay? Don't let go; I'll do all the work here."

Gwynn nodded, dropping her head against his back. "Tell your girlfriend I was not flirting with you."

He smiled at that. "It's totally cool, Gwynn. Savannah's awesome and will be glad to know I helped you."

"Savannah's a nice girl," Gwynn nodded. "Even if she tries to protect everyone from herself. Eve worries about her."

Johnny frowned. "What are you talking about?"

Gwynn dropped her head. "Eve worries about Savannah," she repeated.

Gwynn had to think a moment. "Protecting everyone from her?"

"That's it. Why do you think she is doing that?"

She frowned. "You know why. Eve says Savannah talks to you." Just not like Gwynn talks to Conner -- where she tells him everything.

Gwynn stiffened, going very still. "I apologize."

"Just hold on, Gwynn, and don't be sorry. Who told you that about Savannah anyway?" he asked, feeling the need to defend his girlfriend. "Savannah would never hurt anyone."

Gwynn sighed. "You will not like the answer. There was a night... you were not on the island. I think she said you had some kind of competition and were on the television.. you were on a machine."

"Uh-huh, a motorcycle," he said. "Go on..."

"There was drinking of some very strong alcohol. We were with Eve at Sean's. Savannah was upset about some sort of fight and was telling Eve and Sean that she hated that she was a danger. Eve said that those who loved her didn't care about that." She frowned. "Savannah reminded me of my home and how everyone tied to shelter and protect me. It did not go well."

Johnny would have rubbed his hand over his face was he not swimming towards the boat. "This was a while ago. She feels different now." Of course she did. Didn't she?

"She would never hurt anyone and she's not a danger to anyone."

"She would let herself be hurt before she would hurt anyone else."

"She's got a soft heart," Gwynn said.

Gwynn would be glad when class was over and she could go lay down.

"She's funny when she's drunk, though. She sings and uses her magic powers to do a show."

Johnny felt her weight against him and he held her body easily.

He chuckled. "Does she? I'm going to have to get her drunk then so I can see some of these shows."
