Escape Artistry: Week 4, Period 3 (Thurs. 07/31)

When students entered the Danger Shop, they were again faced with a watery situation that looked an awful lot like their current Australian port. Everyone had been ~~handwavily~~ instructed to wear swimming gear, and if they failed to remember, the room would provide it for them and they could ~~handwavily~~ change. Once everyone was appropriately dressed, they were given handouts, ushered onto the waiting boat, and taken quickly out to sea.

"Like you saw from the handout, today you're escaping from sharks," Ronon said. "Remember to only engage the shark if it attacks you first. If you play dead, it's less likely to attack than if you flail in terror." He looked at various students to be sure they were paying close attention to these instructions. "Any questions before you make your escape?"

Gwynn? She knew about Johnny's fire. Guess who she was staying close to? Eve would be so proud.

Johnny noticed her and grinned. "Hey, Gwynn. You all right?"

Gwynn nodded. "I've never seen any animals like this before, but figured if there was an attack, I should stay near you as I do not have my weapons." She smiled. "Eve said I could trust you."

"Eve is right," he told her and considering her position, moved closer to her. "I won't let you get hurt, Gwynn. I promise."

Gwynn smiled. "Thank you, Johnny, and I believe you." She sighed. "I wonder if one can learn to swim with a sword?"

"I'm not certain? But it might be more of a hindrance, probably weighty, you know?"

Gwynn frowned. "This is very true. It would make it difficult to get away quickly."

Then again, she would still try to hit a shark if it attacked anyone.

"It would," he agreed. "Then again, treading water for so long makes one weak. How are you feeling?"

Gwynn was not a strong swimmer. She was more used to running and fighting and climbing than swimming.

She gave Johnny a small smile. "Not tired yet... much."

Conner would have a heart attack at the lie.

He raised his brows. "I think you're lying."

She frowned slightly. "How do you guys do that?"

"Because we're smart," he replied, a little arrogance peeking through.

She laughed. "Conner wouldn't know how to answer that question."

Connor must not be smart then, Johnny thought.

He grinned. "I have a strong back if you need a ride back to the boat."

She smiled at him. "Any idea how much longer we need to stay out in here?"

"I would say that if a shark hasn't come for you by now, then that's just too damn bad. It's time to get back on the boat."

Gwynn agreed and started to head for the boat. She was more than a little tired and wanted to be dry, too.

Johnny stayed at her side, watching her and keeping a lookout for sharks as well.

Gwynn was glad he was keeping watch as she concentrated on swimming.

"Gwynn," he said in a moment. "You okay?"

She nodded, stopping to tread water and look around them.

"I'm a forest person... fighting wars on land. Not shark bait."

Johnny moved in towards her and said, "Arms around my neck, lay along my back all right?" When she was behind him, arms around him, he started forward. "Just hold to me, okay? Don't let go; I'll do all the work here."

Gwynn nodded, dropping her head against his back. "Tell your girlfriend I was not flirting with you."

He smiled at that. "It's totally cool, Gwynn. Savannah's awesome and will be glad to know I helped you."

"Savannah's a nice girl," Gwynn nodded. "Even if she tries to protect everyone from herself. Eve worries about her."
