Library [07/28]

Sam was still thinking about Destiny and Free Will class as he headed to the library. There were times that class really made him wonder if he was worrying enough about the future, and today was no exception. He was so caught up in thinking, he'd even forgotten to get coffee before starting his day.

"It was pretty much just us, with presents and keeping Grace from sticking her hands in the cake," Sam said, laughing. "But know that you have an open invitation to come to the house whenever."

"I don't want to intrude if it's family time," Peter said.

"You wouldn't be intruding. We're not a little family anymore," Sam said, sounding kind of pleased by that statement. "Family friends count too."

"That'd better include me," Peter said, teasing.

"I wouldn't have said it if it didn't," Sam replied.

"Maybe next year," Peter said. "Though I dunno. I might be busy by then."

"I hope not," Sam said, frowning softly in thought. "I mean, I guess you could be, but I hope you'll still be here."

"'course I will," Peter said, feeling bad if Sam was taking his joke seriously. "Dork."

He said the last bit affectionately.

Sam narrowed his eyes and gave Peter a fake glare. "Don't freak me out like that, making me think you're gonna cut out of here right after graduation."

"I haven't even thought that far ahead," Peter admitted. "I don't know what I'm doing next summer. Guess it depends on what Nathan's doing."

"Hopefully it'll involve being here," Sam said. "You know, for the record."

Peter smiled. "We've got plenty of summer left this go-round. You know, if there was anything you wanted to do."

"We already went to New York," Sam said. "I don't know, is there anything you had planned for the summer that you didn't do yet?"

"Dunno," Peter admitted. "I mean I've already lived my secret dream of wearing a pirate hat."

"And what a hat it was," Sam said, laughing.

"I almost miss it," Peter said, pretending to look crestfallen.

"Awww. I'm sure if we looked, we could find you another one just like it," Sam said, patting Peter on the shoulder.

"Wouldn't be the same," Peter said, pouting.

"We could try to go back in time and save the one you had, but I think we might have better luck with the first idea."

"Just have to find a way to move on," Peter said, shrugging philosophically. "So how are things with you beyond the sugar rush?"

Sam smirked and gave a shrug. "All right, I guess."

Peter looked at him curiously. "You guess?"

"Nothing's wrong," Sam said quickly. "I've just been wondering if it was a good idea to take a class on destiny. It makes me think too much on Mondays."

"Is it your turn for the emo breakdown?" Peter asked, in all seriousness. "Because I'm pretty sure I had the last one, so you're due the BFF comforting shoulder."

Sam laughed softly. "No, it's okay, it's just me being stupid."
