Library [07/28]

Sam was still thinking about Destiny and Free Will class as he headed to the library. There were times that class really made him wonder if he was worrying enough about the future, and today was no exception. He was so caught up in thinking, he'd even forgotten to get coffee before starting his day.

Peter smiled. "We've got plenty of summer left this go-round. You know, if there was anything you wanted to do."

"We already went to New York," Sam said. "I don't know, is there anything you had planned for the summer that you didn't do yet?"

"Dunno," Peter admitted. "I mean I've already lived my secret dream of wearing a pirate hat."

"I almost miss it," Peter said, pretending to look crestfallen.

"Awww. I'm sure if we looked, we could find you another one just like it," Sam said, patting Peter on the shoulder.

"Wouldn't be the same," Peter said, pouting.

"We could try to go back in time and save the one you had, but I think we might have better luck with the first idea."

"Just have to find a way to move on," Peter said, shrugging philosophically. "So how are things with you beyond the sugar rush?"

"Nothing's wrong," Sam said quickly. "I've just been wondering if it was a good idea to take a class on destiny. It makes me think too much on Mondays."

"Is it your turn for the emo breakdown?" Peter asked, in all seriousness. "Because I'm pretty sure I had the last one, so you're due the BFF comforting shoulder."

Sam laughed softly. "No, it's okay, it's just me being stupid."

"So day ending in Y then?" Peter teased. More seriously he added, "C'mon, what are best friends for? Feel free to be stupid with me."

Sam started to shake his head, not wanting to bother Peter after how his conversation with Dean had gone. But Peter wasn't Dean, and Sam started to realize that the conversation might be different with him.

"It's just...we talk about destines and whether or not they can be changed, and it just makes me think about how screwed I might be with the demon's plan," he said.

"Plan's not a destiny," Peter pointed out.

"It is if I can't get out of it," Sam said. "If I'm destined to be part of the demon's plan."

"Well who says that you're a part of the demon's plan?" Peter asked. "Who came up with that in the first place?"

"He said it," Sam explained. "He said he has plans for me and others like me...I don't know who that means, but..."

"Okay, and you're taking the word of a demon over your best friend?" Peter asked. "No way. I can out stubborn a demon."

Sam let out a short laugh. "You and Dean are both so convinced you can stop him before anything happens."

"Not to brag or anything but out of the two of us Dean's not the guy with any sort of future-telling skill." Peter grinned. "Anyway, all I'm saying is that's not destiny. That's a plan. My plan is you're here with me next year and all the years after that. Which one do you want to be on board with?"

Sam couldn't help but get a bit of a warm smile at Peter's thoughts. "I like your plan better," he said casually.

"So we'll work on that," Peter said. "I'm not saying we downplay the danger. I'm just saying there's options. You're not trapped, and you're not alone."
