Library [07/28]

Sam was still thinking about Destiny and Free Will class as he headed to the library. There were times that class really made him wonder if he was worrying enough about the future, and today was no exception. He was so caught up in thinking, he'd even forgotten to get coffee before starting his day.

Sam started the day by checking in everything that had been returned, and trying to lose himself a little in checking his e-mail and blasting the spam away.

Sam had some leftover birthday cake with him, for sharing with Dean if/when he came by.

Sam had grabbed a book to read, but he was still drifting off a little at the desk.

Sam's head snapped up at the noise, and he gave Peter a grateful smile when he saw the coffee. "Hey."

Peter immediately handed the coffee over. He gave Sam a searching look. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," Sam said. "Just uncaffeinated. I forgot to get some this morning."

"You poor thing," Peter said. "I'm amazed you made it this long."

"I had birthday cake with lunch, so at least there was some sugar," Sam said, smiling gently.

"Did the birthday girl enjoy her party?" Peter asked.

"She seemed to. I don't know if she understood what was happening," Sam said. "But she understands she has new toys, and there was cake and a candle so...hopefully she at least knew it was all for her."

Dean came in with a bag of burgers and fries. "Hey," he began, then looked closer at Sammy and frowned. "Okay, let's have it. What's wrong?"

"I'm sure she knew you all were thinking of her and how grateful you are she's here," Peter said.

"And that she's okay," Sam said. "Karal stopped by and gave her a birthday blessing for Vkandis, for protection."

"That was nice of him," Peter said. "I didn't know it was an open party. I would've stopped by."

"It was pretty much just us, with presents and keeping Grace from sticking her hands in the cake," Sam said, laughing. "But know that you have an open invitation to come to the house whenever."

"You wouldn't be intruding. We're not a little family anymore," Sam said, sounding kind of pleased by that statement. "Family friends count too."

"Nice attempt at distraction," Dean said, taking the cake. "Not that it's going to work. Come on. Tell me what's got you down in the mouth. You're making me have a chick flick moment here and I'm not really happy about that."
