Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone.  But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone.  A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge moddable buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

[OOC:  YAAAAAY LUAU!  Students, teachers, and townies all welcome!]

Kaylee found herself a nice little patch where she could sit. She'd never been to a luau, of course, but she'd gotten the gist of how she should look, and as such, had messed with her hair as best she could (which wasn't saying much, but she'd tried) and stuck a flower in it. And she'd even worn a dress. She looked right pretty, she thought.

He couldn't help but watch her from his spot. The flower in her hair... perhaps others had such things, but he'd seen her and she looked a little like Nor like that.

Nor.

He had to talk to Professor Ambrose and make some arrangements with the office.

Even Kaylee could tell when she was being watched, so when she spotted the unfamiliar boy, she tossed off a cheerful little wave in his direction.

He was startled out of his thoughts by the cheerful wave and there was a moment of wobbling and almost flailing before he sent a wave right back. He didn't want to make a terrible first impression, after all.

"Pictures last longer, y'know," Kaylee called good-naturedly.

"You just reminded me of someone," he told her with an eyeroll, entirely at himself.

"Really?" Kaylee tilted her head. "What'd I do?"

"The flower in your hair. It was a little like" say it because it's true "my sister."

"Oh. Well, we don't got flowers like this at home, and I thought it was pretty," she said cheerfully, gesturing to her hair.

He leaned around to look at the flower.

"We don't have anything in particular like that where I lived either," he admitted. "Perhaps down in Quaddling Country but I've never been."

"Where's that?" she wondered.

"To the south and to the east of where I grew up," he told her, tipping towards her a little so she could hear. His voice was rather soft for the moment.

"It's a marshland of sorts, though somewhat drained since the Wizard's ruby campaigns. At least, that's what I'd read on the street in the Emerald City."

Kaylee nodded like she understood any of that. "Is that near here?"

Luke gave the new girl a smile and a wave. "Hi!"

Kaylee grinned and waved back. "Hi! Are you new, too?"

Luke shook his head. "Really, really old," he admitted. "Just friendly, I guess."

"Ain't nothin' wrong with that," she assured him. "I'm Kaylee, hi!"

"Luke," he said, pointing at himself. "Hi back! What workshops are you taking?"

"The mechanics one, the flying one, and the sex one," she recited. "What 'bout you?"

Re: The Campfire

[identity profile] tatooine-doofus.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"My kind of girl," Luke said, then blushed. "Not because of the sex one!" he said quickly.

"Oh, I graduated. I'm heading home next week. I've just been a slacker for the last few days."

She giggled. "Where's home?"

"A galaxy far, far away?" Luke said, smiling. "I get to fly there. I'll get more specifics from my sister this week. She...kind of moves around a lot."

Re: The Campfire

She raised a brow. "I'm from a galaxy far away, too!"

"Really?" Luke's face lit up. "Maybe it's like mine!"

Maybe it was his...

"Your last name isn't Skywalker or Solo, by any chance?"

"Frye," she said apologetically. "D'you know Inara? I'm from her galaxy." Maybe that'd help.
