Luau: The Main Campfire: Friday Evening

The irony of having a Hawaiian luau while in Greece probably hadn't escaped anyone.  But given that the majority of the students probably couldn't pinpoint Hawaii on the map, it didn't seem like that was enough of a reason to cancel what had become a summer tradition.

So in the early evening, the main campfire was transformed into a party place with coconuts, grass skirts, and leis for everyone.  A pig was slowly roasting over the fire, and a huge moddable buffet spread out to the flagpole.

A dance floor was set up, and Hawaiian music was playing, but there was also plenty of grass spread with blankets for the less-rhythm-inclined.

[OOC:  YAAAAAY LUAU!  Students, teachers, and townies all welcome!]

"To the south and to the east of where I grew up," he told her, tipping towards her a little so she could hear. His voice was rather soft for the moment.

"It's a marshland of sorts, though somewhat drained since the Wizard's ruby campaigns. At least, that's what I'd read on the street in the Emerald City."

Kaylee nodded like she understood any of that. "Is that near here?"

He shook his head.

"It's a different world. It's probably connected to this one, or one like this one since I met a girl from Kansas, but it's not Earth or anything like it."

"I met a girl from there, too!" Kaylee remembered. Kansas sounded like an interesting place. "Earlier this week."

...

"There's quite a lot of people from Kansas here," he said. It was almost like the place was unavoidable. Or perhaps there was a conspiracy.

"They're, er, interesting. Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Another galaxy, on a moon named Beylix, and five hundred years in the future," she said proudly.

"...now I know how Glitch felt," he said thoughtfully.

"Hmm?" she asked, not getting it.

He shook his head, berating himself for using the nickname he felt was insulting for his... well, his 'dad'.

They still had to figure things out on that score, not that he'd seen the man much lately.

"There's someone from my world's future. And hearing how I spoke about things confused him terribly as he didn't know the first place to start. I feel about that way."

She smiled softly. "Yeah, it's kinda disorientin'. And exciting."

"Helpful," he says with nod.

"I want to end up in another world eventually."

"How come?" she wondered.

He had to think about it now. After all, he'd pretty much decided he was going to have to take care of some of his mother's business. Possibly his father's. He might have been able to go back to Oz.

"I just sort of want to," he said after a minute.

She nodded. She could understand that. "I kinda want to go places. Well. Not so much go places, but work on the things that do. I used to work on ships an' stuff with my daddy, an' it'd be real neat to work on one of the bigger ones, maybe as a real mechanic."

"Ships as in the kind that go in the sky or the kind that travel on the water?"

He didn't really have either of them in Oz, but he liked to check.

"The sky," she sighed happily. "I need to find some stuff to tinker with 'round here. It's been kinda strange not havin' something to keep my hands busy."

"You're an engineer then?"

He wasn't surprised she was a girl engineer. Just that she was an engineer.

She nodded. "Somethin' like that. Machines just kinda come natural, like."

Nothing he knew anything about.

"I'm sure that makes it easy to find a job. Especially here. Machines aren't anything I have any affinity for."
