Library; Wednesday [ 03/26 ]

Adah knew full well that today, she may have to be dealing with the aftermath of whatever had occurred as a result of her missing rabbit disappearing somewhere in the library. What she didn't know, however, was how, although, as she limped in and got herself settled for shift, she hoped that, whatever it was, it didn't distract her from her reading too much.

Adah gave a small nod. "It does. Two lovers," she held up two fingers with the explanation, "and their secret, scandalous entanglements, each of which occurs also with the occasion of the gentleman telling the lady a story of a distant world. Three suns and different creatures and elaborate histories and everything. The reminder comes more from the storytelling than their love affair; I think we're a little lacking in the scandal, and, really, his personality is more mine, than yours, but it's impossible for me to read it and not think of you when you read out loud or tell me things about Caprica." She smiled a little after the explanation, a smile that could almost be considered shy. It was only lightly so, but probably noticeable, based merely on the fact that it was so rare for her.

"You like when I read to you? And tell you about my home?" he asked, expression softening when he noticed her smile. He made a point to remember that one so he could think about it when things weren't going as well as they were now. "I can do that anytime you'd like."

"Hey, I never said I liked it," Adah pointed out, with a very serious face, really. As serious as she could manage, which was mostly successful. "I just said that the story he tells reminds me of you reading and your stories of your home."

"Well, if you don't like, I don't have to do it anymore," he said, sticking his nose in the air very dramatically.

"No, no, no," Adah argued, in a lazy, bored fashion, sighing heavily and rolling her eyes (throw a blonde wig on her, she figured, and she could be Rachel), "it's okay, I guess. You can. It's not...too bad. Bearable."

"What?" Lee cupped a hand around his ear. "Did you say boring?"

Adah couldn't help grinning at the gesture. "Maybe," she said. "And what if I did? What if I said that you're even more boring than Bible readings at church? More boring than driving across Oklahoma? More boring than Melville? Then what?"

And, of course, she knew that he might, at best, know what maybe one of those three things actually were.

"Then, I won't kiss you anymore," he said, saying the first thing that popped into his head. "Yep, that's right."

Adah snorted derisively. "You wouldn't hold yourself to that," she observed.

"I would so," he said, trying to look as serious as he could.

"Oh, how you lie!" Adah remarked with lifted brows and a light smirk, shaking her head. "Lucky for you, you don't have to prove yourself to be the liar you are, since the point is moot in the fact that I don't find you boring at all, so it's all," she made a gesture, a wave of her hand, "dust in the wind. Ashes to ashes."

"I never lie," he insisted, barely able to hold back a laugh. "And what if I find you boring?"

Adah didn't even bother holding back her short laugh at that one. "If you were to claim that, then you'd only prove you're a liar."

He gasped and put a hand to his chest. "You're cocky today."

"Have you been living under a rock, that this comes as a surprise?"

"No," he said and laughed. "I just like reminding you every once in awhile."

"Good," Adah grinned a little bit at the Eel with a bob of her head. "I like hearing it, too. I'd hate to find out that I'm not being sufficiently cocky."

Her grin sharpened with a pause. "But, of course, me being me, that's impossible."

"I don't think you ever have to worry about not being sufficiently cocky," he said. "Unless it's some weird island thing, you won't fail at cockiness."

Adah widened her eyes dramatically. "The threat of a modest me, I think, is the most terrifying weird island thing I've heard of so far."

"Really?" Lee laughed and shook his head. "Better not jinx it or you'll send up...with a tail or something."

"Lee," Adah took a second to implore him with the utmost seriousness, "I ended up with a robotic kid with a priest, and you think a tail is going to disturb me? And that's not even weirdness on the island's part, that's just Skywalker's twisted brain."

"Good point," Lee agreed. "How is little Edgar doing?"

"Very good," Adah said with a nod. "Yesterday, she got to learn about Acanthamoeba polyphaga mimivirus and Mycoplasma genitalium; right now she's with Karal, but he's bringing her by for me to take tonight, and then tomorrow we turn her in, hopefully for an A, at least on my side of things."

"Does she miss me?" he asked, obviously teasing.

"I doubt it," Adah said, with a remorseless shrug. "You haven't got enough hair. As awesome as it is, there's just not enough for her to grab onto."
