"What? How am I ruining your reputation?" Sam asked.

"Brooke thinks I'm a geek," Peter said. He leaned against the counter as he sipped his coffee. "That's gotta be your fault."

Sam laughed. "Since I don't think I've ever even met Brooke, I'm pretty sure that's not my fault."

"Clearly your reputation proceeds you," Peter replied. Though he was grinning. "God knows I'm not the one giving off geek vibes."

"Maybe supreme geekiness is my super power, and you picked it up unknowingly," Sam said. "Have you felt the strange desire to do reading that has nothing to do with your classes?"

"Comic books count?"

"They can if you haven't felt like reading them before."

"Damn, no good then," Peter said. "Man I am striking out all over the place."

"I hate to tell you, but striking out is a side effect of being a geek," Sam said.

"Damn!" Peter facepalmed in a dramatic fashion. "That's it. I'm throwing myself off a building."

"And you'll either fly, or be all indestructible when you land," Sam replied. "Self-healing, remember?"

Peter grinned, glad that Sam hadn't gone emo in his reaction. "Well I didn't say I was trying to kill myself. More like I was bored."

"I could find you some comic books, if that would help," Sam offered. "Or you could tell me more about Brooke."

"Nice girl," Peter said. "Looks a lot like Jaina, but taller."

"Is she the one who was on the radio making up lies about everyone last week?" Sam asked.

"You know 'female, on radio, and saying untrue things' doesn't narrow it down by a whole bunch," Peter teased. "But yeah, she does Wednesdays."

"Okay, good point," Sam said, laughing. "Does she not like geeks? It's sad how often our kind is slighted."

"I hate to break it to you, Sam," Peter said, "but no one does. I'm really your friend in spite of it."

Sam couldn't help the urge to give Peter his puppy eyes. "But I'm a good geek. My research knowledge is helpful and everything."

"Awwww, here." Peter broke off a piece of donut and tossed it at Sam, much as one might toss a biscuit at a puppy.

Not wanting to waste a perfectly good piece of donut, Sam grabbed it and took a bite. "Okay, maybe you really are going to get me addicted to sugar."

"My evil scheme is working, excellent." Peter rubbed his hands together in a diabolical manner. He then gave that up for snagging a piece of donut for himself. "Got anything planned for the holiday?"

If Peter had mixed feelings about the subject of what holiday was coming up... well Sam might be one of the few to notice the signs.

Sam had plans with Dawn, of course, but he figured he didn't need to spell that out for Peter. And since he didn't think Peter had anyone to spend the day with, it didn't seem fair to talk about it either.

"I'm going to be spending the better part of the morning possibly drowning in flowers," he said instead. "Does that count?"

"Oh yeah, heard about that," Peter said, sympathetically. "Sucks to be you."

"I figure this can be my big contribution to the student council for the semester," Sam said. "Do you have any big plans?"
