Sam was ~~not at all late omg~~ hoping for a quiet morning as he went in to open the library. He had a lot of research and homework he wanted to get done before the day was through.

"Awwww, here." Peter broke off a piece of donut and tossed it at Sam, much as one might toss a biscuit at a puppy.

Not wanting to waste a perfectly good piece of donut, Sam grabbed it and took a bite. "Okay, maybe you really are going to get me addicted to sugar."

"My evil scheme is working, excellent." Peter rubbed his hands together in a diabolical manner. He then gave that up for snagging a piece of donut for himself. "Got anything planned for the holiday?"

If Peter had mixed feelings about the subject of what holiday was coming up... well Sam might be one of the few to notice the signs.

Sam had plans with Dawn, of course, but he figured he didn't need to spell that out for Peter. And since he didn't think Peter had anyone to spend the day with, it didn't seem fair to talk about it either.

"I'm going to be spending the better part of the morning possibly drowning in flowers," he said instead. "Does that count?"

"Oh yeah, heard about that," Peter said, sympathetically. "Sucks to be you."

"I figure this can be my big contribution to the student council for the semester," Sam said. "Do you have any big plans?"

Peter drummed his fingers on the countertop. "I don't know? I was pretty sure no. I mean - Ronan."

"Yeah, I figured," Sam said. "Valentine's Day has a way of being a really crappy holiday if you don't have someone to be with."

"Never really been into it much," Peter admitted. "'course I wasn't dating much before either. And I'm not dating now. So... that would stand, right?"

"Yeah, it would. I wasn't really into it until Dawn. It's definitely a girl holiday."

Peter thought about where they lived, then facepalmed. "Please God tell me Fandom's not going to gender-bend us all for the holidays."

Sam eyes widened a little at that thought. "It can't. Not again. That already happened once, remember?"

"Oh God." Peter pressed his hand even harder into his eyes. "I just pictured Nathan. Make it stop. Please?"

"Did you have to say that? Now I'm picturing it too," Sam replied. "Ugh, what about my dad?"

Peter buried his head in his hands. "For the record? I hate you."

"I hate you too, because you totally started this," Sam shot back.

"You're the one who brought it up by calling it a girl's holiday!"

"I meant because it's a holiday only girls like!"

"Whatever, I'm still blaming you," Peter said. He drank more of his coffee, perhaps to get the taste of the mental images out of his mouth. "Are a lot of people going stag to the dance? Do you know?"

"I don't know about the upcoming dance specifically, but I've seen lots of people by themselves at past dances, watching the drama unfold and mooching dances from their friends. It's not a huge deal."

Peter drummed his fingers on the countertop again. "Maybe I'll do something like that."

"I think you should. The punch will get spiked at some point, so if you're not having fun, at least you can get drunk. And I promise, I'll save you a dance," he teased.

"Do I look like I want your girlfriend to kill me?" Peter replied, giving up countertop drumming to deal with trying to keep his hair out of his eyes. "No thanks."

Sam snickered. "Seriously though, I'll make sure you have fun."

"Thanks," Peter said. He wondered if he should mention he was glad Sam was going instead of being emo about the demon, then he decided that would only remind Sam to be depressed again. Instead he said, "Maybe I'll find somebody else who's going on their own. Pair up for company if nothing else."
