Library [02/11]

Sam was ~~not at all late omg~~ hoping for a quiet morning as he went in to open the library. He had a lot of research and homework he wanted to get done before the day was through.

"I don't know about the upcoming dance specifically, but I've seen lots of people by themselves at past dances, watching the drama unfold and mooching dances from their friends. It's not a huge deal."

Peter drummed his fingers on the countertop again. "Maybe I'll do something like that."

"I think you should. The punch will get spiked at some point, so if you're not having fun, at least you can get drunk. And I promise, I'll save you a dance," he teased.

"Do I look like I want your girlfriend to kill me?" Peter replied, giving up countertop drumming to deal with trying to keep his hair out of his eyes. "No thanks."

Sam snickered. "Seriously though, I'll make sure you have fun."

"Thanks," Peter said. He wondered if he should mention he was glad Sam was going instead of being emo about the demon, then he decided that would only remind Sam to be depressed again. Instead he said, "Maybe I'll find somebody else who's going on their own. Pair up for company if nothing else."

"It's still early in the week. I don't doubt that you could find someone who'd want to go with you if you asked," Sam said.

"Long as it's clear," Peter said. "I don't want to send anybody the wrong message."

"Just make it clear when you ask," Sam said. "I don't think it'll be a problem then."

"So if they knew that going in, it'd be cool?" Peter asked, looking to Sam for reassurance.

"Yeah, why not?" Sam replied. "Especially if the person is in the same boat as you, wanting to go but not wanting it to be a big deal."

Peter nodded, taking that in. "Maybe I'll do that then."

"Good," Sam said, grinning. "Then you won't have any excuse to not go."

"Sure I will," Peter said. "Nathan and your dad turn into girls and neither one of us ever leaves our rooms again."

"I really do hate you."

"Who, me?" Peter batted his eyes innocently.

"No, the other person here grossing me out," Sam said, grabbing what was left of his donut. "Only sugar will fix this."

"Once again my plan is working," Peter said. He finished off the last of his donut, absently licking a bit of jelly from his thumb as he did. "Soon I'll be able to skip straight to bringing in those glass and metal containers you see in diners."

"I'm going to have to spend the rest of the week running to keep from blowing up," Sam replied.

"Scout'll help you out with that," Peter said. Because thinking of how Sam might get exercise with Dawn was just not going to happen.

Sam tended to not think of that as exercise either, thank you very much. "I'm sure Scout would be ecstatic to take me on more walks during the day."

"See? Really I'm just helping your dog," Peter said. "It's a good deed in the end."

"Scout will appreciate your efforts as well," Sam replied. "I'll be sure to tell him it's all because of you."

"I'm a giver," Peter said. "Anyway, I should let you get back to it. Catch you later?"

"Definitely. I'd better see you on Friday."
