Library's closed except for other aides and Bob.

Again, he would steadfastly reply that his name was not Bob, but that was pointless now, wasn't it?

But there he was, coming out of the office with a pile of books under his arm. "Lee."

"Sir," Lee said, nodding politely. "No more trips into Special Collections lately?"

He looked over toward them. "No, I don't think that is in the cards for a while."

"Good to hear," he said and smiled. "How's the library going for you?"

He smiled. "Quiet. Calm. No coffee pouring from faucets."

"Ambrosia'd be better coming from the faucets," Lee decided. "I'd never go to class."

"Ambrosia?" He asked, raising an eyebrow just so. "Not the ancient sort, I assume?"

"Alcohol," Lee clarified. "From my planet. Gets you drunk quick."

The eyebrow went higher. "A bit young, aren't you?"

It was damn near teasing.

Returning from the town, River stopped by the library. She ignored the part about it being lunch and closed, and entered anyway. She threw Lee a suspicious look, but he wasn't the one she was looking for, and instead she turned to the librarian.

"Talk?" She stood in the doorway, arms crossed.

Head cocked slightly to the side, he nodded. "My office, Miss Tam?"

He got a nod in reply, and River walked into the office ahead of him. Then she turned. "The Academy. It still exists?" Their realities weren't the same but with some luck they would be similar enough.

Another quiet cock of the head, studying look. Almost like a reader. Almost.

"I can't be certain. Miranda has damaged them and I no longer have access to the systems."

Honesty was always a good policy.

"And before that? Location, security, projects, anything." He was good at keeping his mind focused, but these were direct questions asked while her mind was directed to pick up anything thought but not said.

He narrowed his eyes at her. Not threatening, annoyance.

"I was only deemed to need to be aware of the particular facility from which you escaped. I did not question it."

Should have. That thought startled him just a touch.

A look in her eyes might have told him that his reflection had reached her. She gave a small nod. "Only the information needed and nothing else, nothing to distract."

On her way out from the librarian's office, River glanced at Lee and hesitated for a moment, debating with herself whether to say something and in that case what.

"Hey," Lee said once he noticed her come out of Bob's office. "Long time, no see."

River just nodded, shifting a little from one foot to the other.

"Something wrong?" Lee asked carefully.

Well, it depended on how you defined wrong. River shook her head. "Not your fault," she said.

"Well, that's good," he said slowly. "I guess?"

River looked thoughtful. Had it been his fault things would have been a lot easier. "For you. Means I won't beat you up." Here she smirked. "Unless you ask me."

"Ah." Well, that made it a little more clear about what she was talking about. "No, I'd like to avoid getting my ass kicked. Still recovering."
