Library [Sunday, February 10]

After a week off from the library, Lee was back behind the desk, eating a banana for breakfast and idly spinning a book around since he didn't want to read it just yet. He figured he could be productive, get some homework done but there just wasn't academic motivation today.

Distractions indeed. Adah's limp toward the front desk lead her into tilting her head to try to glean some sort of title off the cover of the book that the Eel was actually kinda reading, or from at least the spine. Sleep last night didn't seem to take out the curve in her back that her spine had adopted yesterday from all her researching, making for an interesting contortion that she wasn't even aware of. She decided to stave off the greeting for now, waiting for him to say something about her being there first.

"Secessions," Adah said, straightening, even if only a bit, and grinning back. "You've gotten to the Civil War then, I take it? I'm a Southern girl; where I grew up, that was the only part of the history that mattered, and history didn't exactly matter so much into it..."

Again, he would steadfastly reply that his name was not Bob, but that was pointless now, wasn't it?

But there he was, coming out of the office with a pile of books under his arm. "Lee."

Adah's eyes widened a little with a tilt of her head. "For it's time," she muttered, "it only happened about a hundred years after my time, you know. Biggest war of the nation, highest body counts, completely ripped the country into two different mindsets that were, even a hundred years later, still a problem. But all civil wars are nasty. We were in the middle of one in Africa, too....."

She trailed off, offering a slight, apologetic smile. "Sorry. Southern. It's just in my blood to get a little riled up over it."

Returning from the town, River stopped by the library. She ignored the part about it being lunch and closed, and entered anyway. She threw Lee a suspicious look, but he wasn't the one she was looking for, and instead she turned to the librarian.

"Talk?" She stood in the doorway, arms crossed.

He looked over toward them. "No, I don't think that is in the cards for a while."

Head cocked slightly to the side, he nodded. "My office, Miss Tam?"

He smiled. "Quiet. Calm. No coffee pouring from faucets."

"Keep reading," Adah said with a dark sort of nod. "You've got two more coming, on a much bigger scale. And, depending on the publication of that book, if it's recent for this time, there could be more I don't even know about..."

He got a nod in reply, and River walked into the office ahead of him. Then she turned. "The Academy. It still exists?" Their realities weren't the same but with some luck they would be similar enough.

Another quiet cock of the head, studying look. Almost like a reader. Almost.

"I can't be certain. Miranda has damaged them and I no longer have access to the systems."

Honesty was always a good policy.

"And before that? Location, security, projects, anything." He was good at keeping his mind focused, but these were direct questions asked while her mind was directed to pick up anything thought but not said.

"Ambrosia?" He asked, raising an eyebrow just so. "Not the ancient sort, I assume?"

He narrowed his eyes at her. Not threatening, annoyance.

"I was only deemed to need to be aware of the particular facility from which you escaped. I did not question it."

Should have. That thought startled him just a touch.
