Library [Sunday, February 10]

After a week off from the library, Lee was back behind the desk, eating a banana for breakfast and idly spinning a book around since he didn't want to read it just yet. He figured he could be productive, get some homework done but there just wasn't academic motivation today.

He narrowed his eyes at her. Not threatening, annoyance.

"I was only deemed to need to be aware of the particular facility from which you escaped. I did not question it."

Should have. That thought startled him just a touch.

A look in her eyes might have told him that his reflection had reached her. She gave a small nod. "Only the information needed and nothing else, nothing to distract."

"A bullet does not need to know. Simply needs to be fired upon the target," He replied stiffly. Well, stiff for him.

There was a hint of a smile. The philosophy was far to familiar. "Turning people into weapons. Things."

"In a way."

Still a hint of wariness behind his eyes. Behind the perfect little mask.

She took a few steps backwards towards the door. "Peaceful though. Precision and nothing else." She paused. "Nothing more to tell me?"

"Collateral damage happens." The faintest flash of smoke and the smell of burned flesh. Gone in an instant. "Happened. I am not a weapon anymore than you."

Then River laughed. "Oh, but I am one. Half a person, half a weapon. Not an easy thing to reverse."

"But you have the choice now."

"Can't wipe out the past," River replied curtly, then shook her head. "You have nothing more to tell me?"

"A past is not something that can be run away from," He replied easily. "You can only act for how you are now."

Another shake of his head. There was nothing he could.

River nodded, a reply to both his responses. "Won't bother you more," she said, turning and opening the door.

There was a faint sigh.

"Miss Tam?"

She stopped, glancing at him over her shoulder. "Yes?"

"Do visit more." He looked off, not at her. "I think-- I can learn something from you."

She blinked, hesitating for a moment, then nodded again. Then she slipped out of the door, closing it behind her.
