Library [02/04]

Sam was back in the library again for his regular Monday shift, now that he didn't have to sit by anyone's side in the clinic. He was pretty sure he could go for a good long while without having to do that again, and was more than happy to have things back to normal.

"But you actually watch the games on TV," Sam said, pleasantly surprised that Peter remembered him talking about soccer. "I think that balances us out."

"Not as a rule," Peter said. "But the Super Bowl is fun. Plus you gotta root for the home team. Except for you. You can root for the New York teams." He grinned at Sam.

"Okay, I promise to root for the New York teams," Sam said. "Unless I find a team that's better."

Peter tsked. "Fair-weather fan. For shame."

Sam laughed. "I'm glad your team won though. Did you watch the game here? I saw signs for something going on downstairs."

"Nah, I went over to Nathan's," Peter said. "Not as social, but still fun."

"Yeah, I don't really think I'm up for social yet," Sam admitted, before changing the subject. "Nathan seems like he's adjusting well to Fandom so far."

It was adorable how Sam thought he could try to change the subject around Peter. "So far, yeah. Why aren't you up for social yet?"

"I...I don't really have time," Sam replied. "I have so much research to do, on top of everything else, and..." He trailed off, shrugging.

"What's everything else?" Peter asked, since he already knew about the research.

"You know, homework, working here, that sort of thing."

"By which you mean avoiding people?" Peter guessed.

"I'm not avoiding people. I'm talking to you now, aren't I?"

"Does it count when I came to see you?" Peter asked.

"I could have gone in the back and pretended I wasn't here," Sam pointed out.

"True," Peter said. "Still. Glad as I am you're up for being social with me, why aren't you up for being social with anyone else?"

Sam was quiet for a moment before he shrugged. "I have you, and Dean, and Dawn. I don't need to be social with anyone else."

Peter facepalmed.

Sam scowled softly at Peter's reaction. "What?"

"Avoiding people isn't going to help," Peter said. "Though, again: very glad that you're not shutting me out."

"You made it very clear that I can't shut you out," Sam said. "You're crazy and determined to help, we've established that. But I can't let anyone else get involved in our family's mess, it wouldn't be right."

"I like how crazy came first," Peter said. "I assume you were ranking those in order of importance."

Sam cracked a small smile. "Yes, I was. You have to be crazy to know everything you know and still want to stick around."

"Okay," Peter said. "But I get to call you crazy for hanging out with possibly-nuclear me."

"You haven't shown me any sign of going nuclear," Sam pointed out. "I think that makes me less crazy."
