Library; Wednesday [ 01/23 ]

Open the library. Y'rar, bileht nepo. Something weren't as good backward, but Y'rar, bileht desolc wasn't much better and it might be too early in the day for her to effectively get away with that, anyway. She had books, though, and she had a relatively comfortable chair at a nice, big desk. There were no bottles of prescriptions, though, that she could make lists out of horrible side effects from, and then write backwards, which just meant that she'd have to make up her own horrible side effects, list them neatly, and then slide them into the books before putting them in the pile of books to be put away. It was only her duty, as a doctor, to warn people that excessive readings of King of the Bracelets may cause frequent, contagious bouts of being hopelessly ostracized, and that these books on religions are likely to get you an unscratchable, burnable rash; if untreated, it could be crippling, much like a leper.

Nuf sselmrah tsuj? Adah thinks not. By the time she got around to warning readers about the blindness and hairy palms that would accompany studying from this calculus book (why, yes, she was insinuating exactly what you think she was), it was becoming for Adah a crusade. There might be something to it; it could be her thesis. She wished she had the technology to add little trackers to the cards, and see how many people get sick merely based on the hypochondriac nature of mankind.

Having heard the radio before, Jaina knew today was Adah's library day, which was the only reason she was headed down here. "Hi," she said, almost tentatively.

Adah quirked a slight eyebrow; had...Brooke the Brunette Rachel shrunk since this weekend? Her eyes shifted away, slightly up, a thoughtful sort of expression as she wondered if the placebos had for some reason be miss-marked. She didn't exactly know of any medication that would reduce height, but she was still forty-five years behind and you could never tell in this place, really...

She looked back toward the other girl with a tilt of her head, wondering what she wanted.

"My name's Jaina. I was temporarily Brooke this weekend, thank you Fandom," she explained. "I wanted to come by and apologize for Sunday."

The expectant look turned vaguely confused, although not entirely. Adah knew that she had been somehow spared some of these sorts of things, people becoming what they weren't, what they were, what they will be. Most of her avoiding seemed to come from being at the clinic, locked to it this weekend, in a coma during another, and her head tilted. Interesting, really. If she was understanding this correctly, if she were Jaina, or Brooke, or who ever, she would have just ceased from saying anything at all.

Reaching a conclusion, Adah shrugged. She contemplated reaching for her notebook, but this dealt with her medical self; that required talking whether she wanted to or not because she needed to break that habit if she was ever going to be taken seriously at college. "I know my limps," she assured the girl. "Brooke's a good faker, though, I'll give her that, but there's nothing to apologize for. I gave you placebos, and I was bored, anyway. It helped passed a bit of dead time."

Jaina laughed quietly, considering this. "Considering how much I ended up drinking that night before I took any, I thank you very, very much for that," she admitted. "And the rest of the bottle will be a bit of a disappointment for the real Brooke, so the amusement continues."

Adah's shoulder lifted in another slight shrug. "I think more of the amusement would come from if she didn't notice, and still thought they worked. Placebo effect. Studies show an severe increase in hilarity in certain conditions."

Won't lovers revolt now? Probably not, she imagined, because neither of them bothered coming in frequently during second period, so they wouldn't mind her being away from the desk and putting the diagnosed books back. She was putting them in the proper spots today, although with the pages out, spine in. She couldn't help it. yadsd raw kcab.

Cain: a maniac. One of the books to be shelved stayed behind, a small monograph on the devious figures of the Bible. Adah had to admit enough intrigue that she kept it behind to read, thus risking her own claim of damnation in the form of herpes-esque boils around the mouth and really bad corns on the feet. Dammit, I'm mad.

It was Wednesday, and River showed up as usual. Quietly approaching the desk, she was testing how long it would take for Adah to notice her arrival. Books were distracting, she knew, but so could she be on occasion.

Should Bob show up she could always mention blonde wigs.

Even if River couldn't read her mind, she would probably be able to tell in subtle reactions on her face that she'd noticed River there about halfway in the other girl's journey from door to desk. She didn't look up from Jezebel, Lebezej, who, really, was terribly overrated, but there was a slight shifting that included River in the corner of her eye, a slight lift of her eyebrow in awareness. Tiny things. Barely noticeable things, unless you were one to notice them, and she decidedly tried to pretend, the utter futile masquerade, that she hadn't noticed anything, and was calmly waiting for the book to just get to the damn defenestration.

No, pretending didn't work, but River found the attempt sweet. When she reached the desk she leaned forward, close to Adah, so that her hair draped across the pages. Hopefully that would distract. Hopefully not in a way that made Adah annoyed.

Adah leaned back a little, a slight straightening but barely, and blew a puff of air toward the hair over her pages, and smirked. Really, now, River. She was trying to read about murdering whore who got thrown out of windows by servants, here.

River watched her hair move through the force of Adah's breath. "Maybe someone could have caught her when she fell," River said, leaning close to give Adah a kiss.

Adah grinned as she, still pretending to be absent and aloof, lifted her chin to receive the kiss and lightly return it. It was from the top chamber of a palace tower; anyone who would have tried could have been crushed underneath Jezebel's velocity and her big, fat butt. She was an aristocratic whore, after all, so she would have been very well fed.

Desserts, I stressed! It seemed fitting, therefor, that Adah had brought mostly fruit today; they were about as close to most desserts that she could handle eating too much of.

You could call Adah Dan now, and poor Dan is in a droop. She didn't know what it was, but fourth period was always the one where she was feeling wont to just lie her head down for a nap.

Resting her eyes, that was it. She'll make up fake conditions regarding her hemiphelia if anyone complains.

Murder for a jar of red rum. Murder, she said, in that impossible tone. Somehow, Adah had bothered to pick up one of the mysteries she had failed to put back in the shelves, and, often, distastefully, paused to look at the cover to nauseatingly wonder who actually wrote this crap. At least her fake list of symptoms for this one, which included stomach pains of death, were seeming fairly accurate.

Lee appeared after his last class, pushing open the library's doors and walking towards the desk casually, trying to be quiet and inconspicuous. Not that he was trying hard but he was trying.

"Shouldn't sneak up on people reading murder mysteries," Adah commented, because, yes, he was just being so sneaky, too. She kept her eyes on the awful writing that she was pretty sure proved her theory on God not existing. "That's how people get shot."

"Do you have something behind that book to shoot me with you?" he asked, amused. "That'd be kind of frightening."

Adah, slowly, shook her head. "No," she assured him. "Nothing behind the book; just a rifle hidden in my skirt, today."

Lee stood up on his tiptoes just to try and glimpse said skirt. "I could always try and find that for you."

It was a bad line but he didn't care.

Adah snorted, her grin sharpening. "You'd be down there searching for a while, then," she said, with a voice that suggested she wouldn't terribly mind, of course, though still teasing. "And here last week, you were worried about being caught kissing; I wonder how that one would look."
