Library; Wednesday [ 01/23 ]

Open the library. Y'rar, bileht nepo. Something weren't as good backward, but Y'rar, bileht desolc wasn't much better and it might be too early in the day for her to effectively get away with that, anyway. She had books, though, and she had a relatively comfortable chair at a nice, big desk. There were no bottles of prescriptions, though, that she could make lists out of horrible side effects from, and then write backwards, which just meant that she'd have to make up her own horrible side effects, list them neatly, and then slide them into the books before putting them in the pile of books to be put away. It was only her duty, as a doctor, to warn people that excessive readings of King of the Bracelets may cause frequent, contagious bouts of being hopelessly ostracized, and that these books on religions are likely to get you an unscratchable, burnable rash; if untreated, it could be crippling, much like a leper.

Adah (an Ornament, unsurprising when considering the source and legacy, or the Dawn, which didn't make nearly as much sense, in Hebrew) closed her eyes as she lightly returned the kiss, in the languidly lazy fashion of her rolling, lazy thoughts. She had at least been the first wives of random Biblical men (The first shall be last), and one was a decedent of Cain (Cain: A Maniac). She was probably more that one than the approved wife of Esau, who married those dirty Canaanites like the first namesake. Definitely, she thought as she pressed another slow kiss into River's lips, definitely a Canaanite herself.

River chuckled. "A preference for Canaanites over Hebrews?" she asked, one hand reaching out to play with a strand of Adah's hair.

Adah nodded, slightly, to not disturb the paths of River's straying fingers. They were the rebels, the devils, the traders, merchants, and travelers. Destroyed, but not conquered, in the services more often of Baal, whose name tickled the folds of Adah's brain pleasantly, Laab, rather than Yahweh. A false god (but weren't they all?), a god of nature, celebrated typical with great...her eyes shifted significantly at River through the hair...sensuality. Master, lord, a root of the common Beelzebub used to refer to the devil, to Satan.

She gave a wry, smart smile. She read....way too much.

Of course, the thought of those celebrations had made River's thoughts turn away from the Bible, and that smile was pushing her in a similar direction. Spinning one of Adah's curls around her fingers, River tilted her head. "And you have studied those acts of worship to Baal in detail?" she asked teasingly.

Adah grinned. Not in great detail, no. It was a little difficult for a small town preacher's daughter to get her hand on those kind of materials, truth be told.

"So lack of knowledge is only due to lack of books on the subject?" River giggled and leaned forward for another kiss.

[Bedtime, woe!]

Adah smirked lightly, and gave River what she seemed to be looking for with coming closer, briefly, fleetingly, playfully. Not only lack of books, but also the lack of knowing any true practitioners these days.

That was certainly what River wanted. Her fingers released Adah's strand of hair and ran down her arm instead. "Assume Fandom might be the place to meet them. Interdimensional travel is rare."

Not only rare, but technically, supposedly, impossible, but so were a lot of things in Adah's life that showed up and announced themselves as entirely happening and there was nothing anyone could do about it. Her eyes closed, head lolling toward the shoulder of the arm where River's fingers were traveling, fighting off a shiver that wanted to rush, like a pulse, up her spine. She didn't need inter dimensional travel so much; a simple time machine would do. And then she could squish a beetle, and change the future.

"And what part of the future would you change?" River asked, ignoring the dangers of that pursuit. She leaned close again and placed a kiss against Adah's arm.

Well, she wouldn't know, would she? Adah smiled lightly at the top of River's head. You can't determine how one squished bug, gub dehsiuqs eno, would change things. So much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens. But what would happen if the wheel barrow were blue, or if the rain water were wiped away, or if the chickens were killed that day for dinner? Or was that the point, and that was their destiny all along?

"Experimenting with destiny. Laboratory setting is hard to simulate." She turned her hear upwards, grinning at Adah.

With a small, wry sort of grin, Adah slid her eyes to meet River's. Exactly. It's practically impossible to set up a decent constant.

"Could visit the future. A future. Or the past. From here it's possible," River pointed out, her head resting lightly against Adah's arm, neck turned so that their eyes met.

Adah knew she would have been able to manage leaning down to kiss River from where she was against her arm, but their eyes were meeting and she was thinking about it, and that was just as good. Each one would be different, though, none a constant. Thinking about it made her head hurt slightly, like thinking about space. Give her small, contained things she knew she control any day.

"Each one is small and contained on it's own." River closed her eyes briefly, sensing the kiss that was only in the mind. "But interconnected. Like people."

Symbiatic, parasitic relationships. Adah's mind was now in River's hair, though she stayed still and simply watched the other girl leaning against her (an interesting selor fo lasrever), thinking of fingers sliding through and dividing the long strands, thinking of the gentle natural curl from the fact that River rarely seemed to have it brushed, and how the ends twisted vaguely like the strands of DNA, double helix, with their tiny, building blocks of chromosomes.

River let out a chuckle, enjoying the comparison as well as Adah's attention on her hair. No, she rarely bothered to brush it. "The building blocks of all known lifeforms."

[Going home now!]

Adah gave a dramatic type of sigh, although it was soft, restrained from being overblown, and ruefully, lightly shook her head. And there they were, in the dragging, hanging strands of River's hair. Softly, she grinned. That, perhaps, explained why she was drawn to River's hair as she was.

"Good reason." Her hair as a model of DNA. River couldn't help smiling, and thought that she would mention that to Simon at some point. She rubbed her forehead lightly against Adah's arm. It seemed to catch her attention today; sometimes hair, sometimes fingers, today arms. Always lips. River glanced up.

Adah, noticing the shift in River's attention upward toward her, turned her head, risked the slight pulling in her neck, to glance down her arm toward River's wide eyes gazing back up at her. This would be much easier if she could read mind, too.

Adah was perceptive though and sometimes River almost forgot that she couldn't. "Today I explore your arm," she said. "Your lips, every day."

Adah grinned slightly. There was a lot more to an arm than there were lips. Not that she minded, of course, but, playfully teasing, Adah wondered, dropping her chin against her shoulder, if perhaps it would serve the name of exploration better were River to reverse her efforts.

Chosing to interpret that as an invitation, River grinned, pulling herself upwards to place a kiss on Adah's lips. Not a light one; this was exploration after all.

While it wasn't quite what Adah had intended to mean, it was pretty much what she had expected from River, so she put up no complaint or resistance to the kiss, besides perhaps the curve of a sharp grin that lingered before she returned the kiss.
