Driver's Ed [Wednesday, Period Four]

Today, the Dangershop was set to simulate a garage with a number of workstations. The Bentley was back, this time up on a ramp while Bond worked on the undercarriage. "Good afternoon class," he addressed them, wiping grease off his hands with a rag. "Now that I've got some idea of your driving skills, today we're going to be going over cars themselves."

After giving a short lecture on cars and their history, Bond continued. "Now you'll find a number of handouts describing the various systems and components that make up a car, and we'll be going into more detail on them later in the semester, but for this class we'll be focusing on three systems in particular, the engine, a manual transmission, and most importantly, brake systems."

Bond gestured around the room. "I've marked the places in the handouts pertaining to these systems, and set up each of these workstations around the room with an example of each of the three, and I want you to divide into groups of two or three to examine them and get a feel for them. If ou feel the need to take them apart, there are tools provided."

[ooc: wait for OCD up!]

Amber stuck her tongue in cheek and grinned, though her cheeks turned bright red. "Uh." That was bad. She wasn't even thinking dirty. "Uh."

Peter looked apologetic. "Sorry. I was just teasing. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable."

"No, it's fine. I don't usually get teased with so you kinda took me by surprise," she said, still with the grin. "Last time someone picked with me, was when I had Lutefisk stuck in my hair."

"I didn't mean to pick on you," Peter said. "If it makes you feel better you can get me twice in return. And is this where I admit I don't know what Lutefisk is?"

"I'll have to think on gettin' you back then. I admit to not bein' very witty in that department," she said, adding, "Lutefisk is cod soaked and prepared with lye. It's a normal traditional food where I'm from. Mount Rose, Minnesota in case you're wonderin'."

"That would explain the accent," Peter said. "I'm from New York. Wait - isn't lye bad to eat? Folks from Mount Rose must be pretty tough."

"I've always wanted to visit New York." Amber shrugged and leaned closer, whispering sorta like behind her hand. "I don't particularly care for lutefisk. And I think it stinks." not that the mun would know this first hand, of course

"I won't tell," Peter whispered back. "New York's pretty cool though. Maybe there can be a trip at some point."

"...like a field trip?" Amber asked surprised.

"Yeah," Peter said. "We had one for one of my classes a few semesters back. You never know. Could happen again."

"I didn't know high schools could plan trips like that," she said, still surprised. "To get out of Mount Rose I had to sign up for the beauty pageant and then as soon as I get to Alabama, wouldn't you know they canceled it."

"You do beauty pageants?" Peter asked, surprised.

"I was in one," Amber answered, feeling embarrassed cause he seemed surprised. "I like to tap dance."

[identity profile] repeterpetrelli.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wow," Peter said. "You are full of surprises. So have you won anything? Or would that have been the pageant that was cancelled?"

"Becky Leeman won, I was second runner up," she gave him a resigned sort of look. "It's a long story. Becky was blown to pieces on the swan float she was ridin' in the parade. I then became Mount Roses American Teen Princess and went on to Alabama where the major pageant was cancelled due to some sort of IRS tax evasion or somethin' like that."

"So Fandom must seem comparatively normal to you so far," Peter guessed.

"Aside from meetin' a plushie frog and a Puss, I've done fairly well," she smiled.

"You've met somebody with powers now," Peter said. "If you were going for bingo or something."

"Somebody with powers?" Amber asked, unsure.

"I can do things," Peter said. Then he figured a demonstration would be best, so he briefly turned invisible and then visible again.

She raised her brows at that and when he disappeared and reappeared, Amber's jaw dropped. "No way."

"Way," Peter replied.

"That's just... wow. I could really use a power like that. Dare I even ask how?"

[identity profile] repeterpetrelli.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"My power is I copy other people's powers," Peter said. "It doesn't always happen, but I've got a few of them now."

A shadow crossed Peter's face briefly as he thought about one power he was hoping to never get.

Amber might have misinterpreted that look on his face and asked, "Is this somethin' that you're okay with?"
