Interactive Religion [Tuesday, January 22]

"Hello again," Biff said with a small smile. "I guess your weekend was...eventful. Today we're going to address one of the reasons that people cling to religion: the hope that something lives on after the body has died."

He waved his hands towards three Muppets guests. "You might recognize our Chef. He's joined by two friends, and they are professional mourners."

He frowned. "At least, I'm pretty sure that's what he said. Anyway. They're going to sing a traditional dirge called 'Danny Boy,' and then you will pair up and try writing your own."

He grinned. "I spent some time as a professional mourner, so I know a good dirge when I hear one. But first...the Leprechaun Brothers!"

Unfortunately Romeo had gone through all the actual good poems and was on his acrostic, the one that began "J = Joyous, U = Unspeakably beautiful" and continued through to "T = Trapped." Sensing someone over his shoulder, he glanced up to see Andrew. Reflexively, his hand covered his work, but probably not until Andrew had gotten a pretty good look.

"Shall we work together, then," he asked, as a distraction.

[OOC: Need to head off shortly, back around 1.]

Andrew had indeed spotted the poetry, but remembering his previous conversations with Romeo, decided not to ask any questions. Still, he did reach up to give the other boy a small pat on the shoulder.

"Sure!" He had been hoping for an offer.

Happy his work passed unremarked, Romeo turned in his seat so he was facing Andrew. "So we need to write a song for the dead, something solemn and slow."

"Does it have to be solemn and slow?" Andrew asked. The one person that had died that he actually morned had been so full of life and, well, fast.

"All the ones I have heard are," Romeo said, thinking about the question. "But if this is ours, it need not be like those of others. Could we write a fast dirge?"

"We could do whatever we want," Andrew replied decisively. "Do you, um, do you think we need a tune or just the words?"

"That," Romeo decided, "depends on whether you can write music or no. I am no minstrel, myself."

"I can play the pan flute," Andrew offered. "Or, if we want to make it kind of, like, tribal, I can play the didgeridoo."

Romeo may have not been in the right frame of mind for this assignment, because that made him snicker. "Didgeridoo," he repeated. "Yes, we ought to compose a dirge for the didgeridoo, as it will be unique in the world."

"So we can make it all chanty and like oddly rhythmic," Andrew said, liking this idea as well. "Who or what shall we lament?"

"Mercutio," Romeo said, almost before thinking. "He ... a friend. But he should like a didgeridoo dirge, I think." In the sense that he'd laugh his ass of at it. "Is there anyone or anything you wish to add?"

"Bart," Andrew added. "He was my roommate. He thought thought the didgeridoo was funny."

"The word itself is funny," Romeo said. "What if you write a verse for him, I write a verse for Mercutio, and we write the chorus together? because omg I cannot write Shakespeare tonight."

"Sounds like a great idea to me," Andrew replied, already putting pen to paper and thinking about what to write.

Next to him, Romeo was scrawling his own contribution.
