Interactive Religion [Tuesday, January 22]

"Hello again," Biff said with a small smile. "I guess your weekend was...eventful. Today we're going to address one of the reasons that people cling to religion: the hope that something lives on after the body has died."

He waved his hands towards three Muppets guests. "You might recognize our Chef. He's joined by two friends, and they are professional mourners."

He frowned. "At least, I'm pretty sure that's what he said. Anyway. They're going to sing a traditional dirge called 'Danny Boy,' and then you will pair up and try writing your own."

He grinned. "I spent some time as a professional mourner, so I know a good dirge when I hear one. But first...the Leprechaun Brothers!"

Reno stared.

And Reno stared some more.

He was doing a good deal of staring.

He just couldn't shake the notion that these three and his buddy Rude from back home would make an awesome barbershop quartet.

Karal put his head on his desk and sighed.

At this point, nothing surprised him. He was just grateful there were no statues involved this week.

There were tears. They were not tears of sadness. Oh no. And the sounds coming from Jamie were not sadness at all.

The song made Romeo choke back a truly manly sniffle.

Andrew thought this was a perfectly wonderful rendition of the song, and when it was over, he gave it a solemn slow clap.

Sam was doing his absolute best to not laugh. This was exactly what he needed, thank you very much.

Neville blinked slowly, and was reminded both the Weasley twins and Hagrid for some strange reason. He clapped politely when the song was done, though. He didn't want to offend them.

Rikku was ... trying her best to work herself into a lather of indignation. Because it was religion class, because he was mocking funerals and she'd seen so much death, because she didn't like her professor very much, and because there had been lightning strikes all day and there was a storm coming and dammit.

.... but ....

It was really hard to stay mad in the face of such ... a moving rendition.

Oh, look. There's a Romeo sitting near Rikku and trying to flail at her quietly.

Katara had to stare. And then wonder if this was how people actually mourned. Because...wow, really?

Inara watched the, er, moving rendition and decided that it was a good thing professional mourners had gone out of fashion sometime in the last three or four hundred years.

The Chef was there and ready to be talked to. He really liked his Danny Boy outfit.

Reno had to write a funeral dirge. He wasn't certain if this was a sick sort of joke or not, really. But heck, if he had to be creative or something, at least he could have fun with it, right?

Even if his only lyric idea at present was something along the lines of 'boo freakin' hoo.'

Romeo was paging through his poetry notebook. He had to have written something after Juliet died that was appropriate for a broader audience.

Karal was, indeed, past the point of beating his head on things. This week, he was embracing a sort of stunned silence. Kind of a rabbit in the headlights approach to things.

He had his head propped on his hand as he stared at nothing. Feel free to poke him to get his attention.
