Max had left her bike stashed somewhere and was currently exploring this island.

She came upon the picnic and realized she was at some kind of school. Huh. For some reason, she found this place intriguing. It certainly needed further scrutiny.

Zoe was making her way around the grounds with Grace, getting a feel for what the crowd was like, and trying to greet as many new people as she could. She smiled when she spotted a student she hadn't seen before. "Hi there," she said. "Welcome."

"Uh, hi," Max replied. She hadn't expected anyone to talk to her. Especially not a woman with a baby. "Thanks."

"I'm Principal Washburn," she said, by way of introduction, "and this is Grace."

The Principal. Max was pretty sure that meant she was in charge. She wondered if she was about to get booted. "I'm Max," she replied, giving a finger wave to the baby.

She wasn't jealous at all that the baby was with her mother, oh no.

Grace smiled and made a babbling noise at Max.

"She says hello," Zoe said. "You're a new arrival, right? Did you have any trouble finding us?"

Okay, so not getting kicked out. Interesting.

"Actually, I sort of stumbled upon you," Max admitted, curious to see what kind of reaction that would get. "I'm not really sure where or when I am."

Stumbling seemed to be more and more common to Zoe, so she managed to set aside her surprise after a moment, to switch gears. "Oh. You're in a place called Fandom, in Virginia, in the United States," she said. She could add the Earth part later, if it seemed necessary.

"I knew I was in Virginia," Max said. It was probably good that Zoe didn't add the Earth part.

"I... was looking for someone. A relative that's been missing for a number of years. Somehow I ended up here."

"Who is it you're looking for?" Zoe asked. "They might be here."

"His name is Seth," Max said. "At least, that was the name he was using last time I saw him."

Zoe frowned softly, shaking her head. "We don't have any students here by that name, and I can't think of anyone in town with that name either. He might be here though, if you think he's using an alias. Or he might be another new student that I don't know yet."

Johnny did a double-take when he saw Sue and he made a beeline towards her. "What the hell are you doing here?" He looked her over. "And what the hell did you do to your hair?"

Max studied the boy for a moment, wondering if her quest had really been that easy.

But, no, she was pretty sure he wasn't one of her brothers. "Who are you?"

He quirked a brow then grinned down at her. "Niiice, Sue. Tell me you didn't come here to check up on me?"

"I didn't come here to check up on you," Max said. "Also? My name isn't Sue."

Again, his eyes fell over her. "Well, the hair really doesn't do you justice. But I'll go with it for now." Johnny? Not too much on the bright side sometimes. "Why are you here?"

"I fail to see how that's any of your concern," Max said cooly. She wouldn't kick his ass unless he really provoked her, since, you know, she wanted to actually stick around and check this place out while she looked for Seth.

Oooh, hello! The light came on. Johnny was feeling pretty much like an idiot now. "Uh, sorry. This whole dimension thing - I sort of forget about it sometimes. You look exactly like my sister, though the hair is different." He shook his head, embarrassed, and thrust out his hand. "I'm Johnny Storm, junior, not a new student."

Dimension thing? Max wasn't sure what he meant by that. "Max Guevara. New student. Also a junior." At least that's what she was pretty sure they told her when she registered. It sounded right.

She was stuck on the part where she looked like his sister though. Did she have a clone out there? Maybe this was Seth, going by a different name.

"Max? That short for Maxina or something?" Johnny was so smooth. "Whereya from, Max?"

"It's short for Max," she replied. "I came out here from LA on my bike."

Today Billy found himself tempted to leave the leg behind and just hop around on crutches. But he resisted that temptation. Really the eyepatch was likely to be enough for a first impression.

"Hey." he nodded to one of the new girls. "Welcome to Fandom."
