Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Barney stared at the zipper. "Yes, hello." He vainly touched his own head.

"Hi." He pulled back his hand. Ok, not quite like Harriet.

And he was staring at his zipper, but that was to be expected. DG had mentioned that such a thing was unheard of on the Other Side.

"My name is Glitch. Or Ambrose." He paused. "Either, really. I'll answer to both. Are you another teacher? Or are you a dean?" He had no idea how this worked.

Barney stared a little more before composing himself somewhat to respond. "I'm Barney Stinson, Professor of Awesome and Cool," he said, happy he could add that last bit from his new class title. "You're teaching this semester?"

He nodded. He had been nodding a lot today, and he felt his neck give a little twinge of pain because of it. It was almost worse than being in court.

"Applied Inventiontronics." He leaned in a little, and asked, "How long have you known that you're a teacher here? I mean, well, they were expecting me and I have no idea why, but now I'm a teacher." He was very anxious to find out if this was how it was for all the teachers here.

Barney stared a little more, eyes getting wider. "I've known since I agreed to come teach these kids a little something about being Awesome," Barney told him, not certain Glitch wasn't insane. "But I've heard things about Fandom weirdness. Maybe that explains you."

"Fandom weirdness?" A synapse popped in disbelief. "I thought it was magic."

He was serious.

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Are you magic?" Barney asked. "Because really, I hear the magic people get a lot less of the weirdness happening." At least, he didn't think talking horses sought out magic people to torment.

Glitch blinked. "No, I'm not. But, I am from a place where magic is more," he reached for the right word, "prevalent." That worked.

"Have you heard of the O.Z.?" He supposed asking couldn't hurt.

"Wasn't that a show on HBO?" he asked. "I think my brother James watched that."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
He raised an eyebrow. "What's an HBO?" He thought it sounded similar to what he'd call one of his inventions.

"You don't know about cable television?" Barney was shocked. He'd never really talked about such things with other people in Fandom.

Glitch looked confused. "A what? Is it anything like a A T.D.E.S.P.H.T.L.?"

"Are you just saying random letters for a reason?" Barney asked, wondering what was wrong with this guy.

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
"No." He looked a little offended that Barney didn't recognize it. "It's a Tri-Dimensional Energy Stored Projected Holographic Time Loop." Pause for effect. "I invented it."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"A what? Is it valuable?" Barney asked, trying to find something interesting about the strange-sounding item if Glitch was so proud to have invented it.

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
He smiled. "It's a Tri-Dimensional Energy Stored Projected Holographic Time Loop." He said it slowly this time.

"It will display a three dimensional representation of crystal recorded events on an endless loop until interrupted. Really, a very nifty thing to have."

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds pretty sweet," he said. Barney wasn't sure he understood what Glitch was talking about, but he did understand that nifty things and people who could make them were often useful.

"Maybe you could show me this Tri-Dimensional thingy sometime."

Finally, some appreciation!

"I don't know that that there are any on this side. Do you, uhm, know of any way I could send for one?" Glitch still had no idea how things worked here, but was open to suggestion.

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Send for things from home?" he asked, curious that Glitch hadn't heard of the post office. "Like, through the mail, maybe?"

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes! Mail!" His tone suggested that it was miraculous breakthrough. "But would it reach the O.Z.? I mean, here seems magic, which would make it easier, in theory, to communicate with the Outer Zone. Then again, DG and Ahamo didn't mention anything about the Other Side being magical enough for that unless you were a Slipper."

Glitch still didn't get that people here didn't know what he was talking about most of the time for a reason.

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Barney stared while Glitch spoke, really not following along after the first sentence. "Right, I'm sure the O.Z. isn't out of reach for the mail here in the land of portals and pirates."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
While a few synapses filed away 'Mail to the O.Z.' for later consideration, he looked at Barney with an eyebrow raised.

"What's a pirate?"

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Barbossa," he replied. "He's the gay pirate who runs the radio station. Some have eyepatches and say 'Aargh!' a lot. I'd avoid them, if I were you. Though you do have a zipper on your head."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
He blinked, then tried to find an Ozian reference point for 'pirates.' Taking the fact that Barney suggest avoidance, and he really didn't care for the tiny little bastards in the East, Glitch now had a mental image for 'pirate.'

Painted, angry, and with one eye. He nodded, and felt that these pirates would be pretty easy to avoid.

"Do pirates not like zippers?" He couldn't see what it had to do with anything, but maybe the zipper was finally an advantage instead of a weak point.

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, they're more the brass button type," Barney offered. "Very lacking in any sort of fashion sense. Miss Bell would probably explode in a fit of tiny anger if she saw the things they wear."
